James Sutherland?
With all the various inquisitions into the parlous state of Aussie cricket this guy doesn't seem to be on the radar of the critics.
Anyone else think he is good at avoiding the microscope?

Re: James Sutherland?
He is such a bumbler when in the visual media or radio. I can only assume he is very good at his job when sitting at his desk. But like most of us are, shirley he is judged on results? On that score he should be sacked.

He always looks like he's about to crack and break down in tears when he gives interviews. His voice is always shaky.

Re: James Sutherland?
....he should be at the head of the queue...Argus was too soft in his review...time for someone like Max Moore-Wilton to run amok with axe...
the only one on the admin side who should survive is Howard...he shows a bit of toughness..
they should offer a couple of squillion to a capable sports CEO like Demetriou
Get rid of the current NSP, the coach and the physio...hire Boof as coach
watson, the gcs and fuse should not go to England and lose their central contracts....obviously players like midge cannot ever be selected again...maxwell needs to cement his spot in Victoria's shield team first - which he has not done to date....reeks needs to go back to shield cricket and maybe do a stint in County (if he is not on a contract already)

Re: James Sutherland?
He seems a bit like David Graveney in the sense of somehow avoiding the closest scrutiny in spite of being one of major players in the overall debacle.
His "reign" over English cricket was a pretty muddled affair - if it wasn't for coach Duncan Fletcher and his stubborn approach to backing his friends come rain or shine, England would've had no selection policy at all over a decade or so: just a random gathering of XI or so names picked out of a hat.
Yet the only people who ever carried the can for the frequent shambles were fellow selectors Mike Gatting and Graham Gooch, scapegoated after the 1999 home defeat by NZ that included yet another recall for Hick and Ramprakash and Ronnie f*cking Irani getting a game. The chairman of selectors escaped scot-free - a couple of his underlings took the heat for the embarrassing clusterf*ck he oversaw.
Classic politician's move. Self-preserve at all costs.

I read stories of Graveney going around the Press Box and asking Journos who they thought should be in the team.

That wouldn't have been a desire to get the best team together - it was all about keeping the press onside.
It was said he also used to phone people (in positions of influence: media, county chairmen, ECB members) who dared criticise him and demand an explanation.

Why? He is the high performance coach isn't he? I hav'nt seen a lot of any performance recently, let alone High Performance.
Re: James Sutherland?
They might've been high when they selected the squad. Perhaps that's what the title means - he's their dealer.
