Well that's a dramatic change of opinion in the space of a week.Big Dog wrote:Pathetic collapse by Aust. Agree about Paine. His batting has really gone off the boil. No chance of him replacing haddit or Wade now.

Give a batsman enough opportunities and he'll make runs sooner or later. A ton in an ODI match against an 'A' squad on a flat pitch isn't that much to write home about....apparentlyRed wrote:The Aussies lose chasing a moderate total though Finch almost took them over the line single-handedly. .

A week in cricket is a long time. Paine started the tour with some modest scores & looked like he might kick on but instead he seems to have gone the otherway. Hartley would now have to come into contention.Henry wrote:Well that's a dramatic change of opinion in the space of a week.Big Dog wrote:Pathetic collapse by Aust. Agree about Paine. Agree, Finch hasn't got the technique to succeed in test cricket but he will blast quickfire runs in the shorter forms now and then.embee wrote:Give a batsman enough opportunities and he'll make runs sooner or later. Let's pick someone who can keep.
I wouldn't be sorry to see Hartley there.

Nothing wrong with the keeping of nifty, plus a better bat then Hartley and 4 years his junior.

... and of course he's from NSW. You're right, we don't even need to look at the others.

Not just because he from NSW, just saying there are other viable options to Hartley or isn't anyone allowed to suggest a alternative.lardbucket wrote:... and of course he's from NSW. You're right, we don't even need to look at the others.

absolutely - Hartley, Paine, Nevill, Ludeman, Whiteman, even Triffitt.
They're all better keepers than either Haddin or Wade.

2012-3 Shield keeping stats
lots of factors involved, but a couple of the keepers on the list stand out
and ALL the batting stats ... on this list, Hartley and Ludeman both out-performed Nevill (and all the others, really) in terms of aggregate and average

Hartley seems to be the popular vote among the experts as the best gloveman and they were quoting what SS cricketers were saying. His batting (which isn't that bad) appears to have gone against him. Age might be his enemy now, though they were prepared to go back to Haddit and Rogers.

Personally I thought Triffitt was an outstanding prospect. He was lured to WA and then dumped after 5 quite reasonable performances in favour of the local lad, Whiteman. Not sure where he goes from there. He actually might be best off heading to Queensland ...

The problem with keeping stats is they don't count errors/drops per game.lardbucket wrote:2012-3 Shield keeping stats

Obviously that's true, but there's a big difference between 50 catches in a season and 15-20; and Nevill's vaunted batting was no better in the end than Hartley's. In fact no-one did better than Hartley last season.

Nevill was shunted all over the place, b/c NSW had to accommodate Haddin.lardbucket wrote:Obviously that's true, but there's a big difference between 50 catches in a season and 15-20; and Nevill's vaunted batting was no better in the end than Hartley's. How can India winkle out that Sandhu for his Sikh motherland (in its current state, at least)?

Pat Cummins injured again. He's flying home from South Africa with a suspected lower back/rib problem.

Didn't someone post yesterday that they are looking forward to Cummins and Pattinson leading the Aus attack?Henry wrote:Pat Cummins injutred again. He's flying home from South Africa with a suspected lower back/rib problem.

You couldn't make these Aussies up. The only thing that hasn't gone wrong with their seamers is that Rhino is still fit.
