Re: Bell's Ashes
Just shows again too apart from anything else that most batmen have their best records batting at #5. It's the plum position. Certainly Bell's had a stellar series by any measure though.

Re: Bell's Ashes
Clearly the belf has been the difference between the two sides. He is the only batsman on either side who has shown any consistancy.
Re: Bell's Ashes
So, we've been 30/3 most times. So, principally, you're talking shit - wouldn't you say?Red wrote:Just shows again too apart from anything else that most batmen have their best records batting at #5. It's the plum position. Certainly Bell's had a stellar series by any measure though.
That sort of theory only holds water if we'd have been wrecking it.
Re: Bell's Ashes
I'm still trying to work out how many runs. SRT, Kallis, Lara and Ponting would have got batting at 5.Brass Monkey wrote:So, we've been 30/3 most times. Re: Bell's Ashes
Congrats to the Belf. His always sound technique is now married with an unmuddled head, and patience to eradicate that ridiculous chip to midwicket.
A masterful series, with possibly another ton to come at The Oval.

or less than 5% of their total
of course a lot of those 2500 may have come about due to a night-watchman earlier in the innings

Re: Bell's Ashes
I strongly suspect that taips was being a little sarcastic in view of Red's absurd comment about #5 being the 'plum position', not asking how many they'd actually scored on the rare occasions they had batted there
ie 'imagine how many more runs these great players would have got if they'd batted at number 5'
ie 'imagine how many more runs these great players would have got if they'd batted at number 5'

Re: Bell's Ashes
the point really was that all of them have indeed batted at 5, but not one of them considered it 'plum' enough to bat there for an extended period of time
so yeah, red was talking sh!t

Did you hear how Clarke said he'd bat anywhere in the team that was required, including three?
