I concur. The man is like Pythagoras amongst a bunch of Jade Goodys (God rest her soul [by God I mean nothing, by soul I mean nothing, by rest I mean I couldn't give a shit).Dello wrote:Bresnan was the only bowler during the bollock-achingly appalling new ball spell who actually pitched it up.

He's definitely not the least thick set.Dello wrote:Bresnan was the only bowler during the bollock-achingly appalling new ball spell who actually pitched it up.

Dearie me what was Jimmy playing at in that spell after tea?
300 runs on the board and all they needed to do was probe on a good length, Jimmy was chucking all sorts down. Short slow dross to Khawaja, width to Warner, every third ball he went for a miracle ball that usually ended up as a leg stump half volley.
Inexplicable, when he's bowled so intelligently for the past 3 years or so. It's like he fell into the same time warp Plunkett's just emerged from.

UK is definitely stamped as NTPFAA.
In the past when UK had a smaller profile and was less known for some reason I thought he was the BPOSIA. Fark me.

I fell asleep at 1-120. I don't know what is sadder: that we capitulated the way we did, or that I was not surprised by the score when I woke up.

I switched off the TV and went to bed in a huff at tea. Was pleasantly surprised when I woke up this morning. Broad's dismissal of Clarke was the turning point, psychologically, as much as anything. No England bowler has been so hot, or so cold, as Broad since Caddick used to infuriate us all.
Changes for the next test? I reckon Taylor for Bairstow is the only one they may consider. Well, maybe Tremlett/Rankin for Bresnan is another but I doubt it. I doubt any of Jimmy, Broad, Swann, or Cook will play any part in the ODI series that follows, so why not continue to play our best team at the Oval in the important matches and rest them for the JAMODI stuff?
And for Aus? Well, they will definitely make a few changes.

Yes ... it should be a while before UK gets another dig, if ever.
Smith did not exactly cover himself with glory either.

Nic Maddinson must be looking good to come in at #3 for the home series. He ticks all the boxes that selectors seem to like in a batsman.

Today I was thinking the Glenn Maxwell might not be worth another look.
At least he MIGHT get a big score sometime.

Well, well, well.
At the start of this series I said I thought we would probably play better than England over the summer but that two or three epic batting collapses would end up costing us victory.
And so it has come to pass.
In Australia's defence Broad's bowling was amazing. Someone must have slipped a proton pill into his drink at tea because he looked like a changed man.
But the real turning point was Warner's dismissal. If Warner stayed out there he could have knocked off the runs in pretty quick-smart time. It was a great delivery from Bresnan.
But how could we get through the day without an important cameo from DRS? The Umpire's Call rule on LBWs is a steaming pile of donkey droppings. For Haddin to be given out while Bresnan was given not out makes the system a total sham. These things tend to go against you when you're the inferior team, but it really could have made all the difference today.
Congratulations England. The score might read 3-0, but I'm actually more confident than not of winning the urn back in the return series on more familiar pitches.

To be fair to DRS - both decisions were umpires call.

I'd even have Wade as a batsman to keep out Uzzie.

Haven't they picked enough flashy, aggressive players who can only score runs on absolute roads? The likes of Silk, Doolan, and Burns deserve a closer look. Maybe even Marcus Harris from WA. Simply because they don't get selected for T20 cricket, and appreciate the value of a solid technique as the base for your whole game.JGK wrote:Today I was thinking the Glenn Maxwell might not be worth another look.G.Wood wrote:Nic Maddinson must be looking good to come in at #3 for the home series. Yeah well, I wasn't entirely serious there. It was just to show how freaking pissed off I was at the sh1thouse batting we have at the moment.

Well it seems my early assessment of UK has now been justified. You'd have to think Fork will get a run for Twatto. Either Moo/Hughes/Wade for UK. It remains to be seen if Rhino or Cot will be rested.

That's the whole point. It's the system which allows for this inconsistency.JGK wrote:To be fair to DRS - both decisions were umpires call.
As I said earlier in the thread, Dar farked us royally today.
Umpires Call is the problem and needs to be scrapped in favour of a clear standard that's applied in all circumstances.

As an umpire I am totally amazed how Dar could give Bresnan "not out" ...from an umpiring perspective it was probably a worse decision than missing the Broad hit to slipJGK wrote:To be fair to DRS - both decisions were umpires call.

The problem with umpires call is most times you are guessing as to what he thoughtHass wrote:That's the whole point. It's the system which allows for this inconsistency.JGK wrote:To be fair to DRS - both decisions were umpires call.

for example ....with the Bresnan decision, if Dar thought the ball was ok for height but missing leg then his call was actually out on the hawk eye evidence
The Rogers caught behind overturned / lb umpires call not out is strange because the umpire wouldnt consider LB after the 'nick' ...how is there a call to be made?

Can we have a thread on Clarke and his flaws as a person and cricketer. Fark me his vendetta against people he doesn't like and his power to keep them out of the team.
Plus stats on his captaincy failures.
Fark me I thought he would have been better than Ponting as a captain but he is showing fark all at the moment to prove it.
