h - hasn't everyone that's played the game done a bit of umpiring? That's what I find puzzling about this forum - would have thought that most members have had some experience standing in the middle & therefore are far better understanding about how fecking difficult it is.

Someone mentioned yesterday that Taufel goes to the nets, stands over the stumps and practices his skills. Admirable.

I would quite happily be an umpire. Especialy in the knowledge that every decision you make is going to fire up some idiot. Even if you get them all right, someone will still complain, so stuff'em.

I know you were having some fun Zat but isn't there some truth in this sample.

They should rotate the umpires,so that they do half a day in the field each.
I think a lot of people will lose interest in cricket if they bring too much technology into it.
I know I will.

How about 33rpm for Tests and 45rpm for ODIs?

I don't get it. They're still going to be facing the wrong way at some point.

Re: Who'd be an umpire?
Perhaps you could make the sight screen a mirror, so that when they are facing the wrong way...

You'd have to have a giant concave sight screen ...

Aye, and you could also use it to burn the Barmy Army a bit more during the session breaks.

I know what some Indian fans and past players would like to rotate Bucknor on.

Re: Who'd be an umpire?
A long time ago I was batting in a final, we were chasing a target & the pressure was on. I nudged one to mid wicket & took off. The throw came into the bowler standing over the stumps (remember when bowlers did that) & the ump's finger went up.
After the game all those involved are having a beer - I'm locked in conversation with the miscreant ump debating the matter of my dismissal - that chat ended abruptly when the ump said "well you're the dumb kunt that decided there was a run in it" followed immediately by the thunder of my mates laughing. He was right & my mates where spot on with their attitude.
