Frommie - tech question Empty Frommie - tech question

Post by Big Dog Sat 14 Dec 2013, 19:27

In the last couple of days i have been experiencing forum problems & i wondered if our net hosts have been doing some tinkering. My problem is that i can access & log onto the forum ok but when i open a thread my browser freezes. I've found that the only way i can get around this is to switch to compatibility mode after logging on. Any idea's?

Try cleaning the browser cache, history, cookies, everything.

Also unless you have a compelling reason to use IE, I'd suggest Firefox or Chrome. Better, faster browsers.

Also, Windows XP support is ending April 2014. That means no longer any security updates etc. All such machines would be in a vulnerable state from there on. You may want to look into getting a newer computer, at least Windows 7

Hello Big Dog

I am not aware of any recent alterations or upgrades applied by the hosts.

Given that the problem seems to be exclusive to yourself, it could well be a browser issue.

I find that the Forum runs much faster and smoother with Mozilla Firefox compared to Internet Explorer, which tends to suffer constant momentary (several seconds) "freezes".

I can only suggest either updating your IE browser version, or change to another browser, such as Firefox or Google Chrome (which also seems to work very stably).

Regards

FWIW, I changed my old cheese's browser from Internet Explorer to Mozilla Firefox 12 months ago and it not only sped up the Forum performance but her whole Interweb experience. IE is pus, IMHO.

My tech head little bro swears by Google Chrome, but I don't like the page set up.

Yeah...already did all that..did'nt help. I tried Firefox a few years ago...did'nt like it. It just pisses me off that this has suddenly started to happen for no apparent reason.

Chrome all the way. Could be no more updates and support for the outdated XP and it's assets. You could update to WIN 7 for a little more money I am sure. Its stable and better for the moment. WIN8 has its share of untried issues that will take time to sort.

I find WIN7 very stable, but its IE component is still rubbish. The biggest trouble I have is with ferkin Firefox add-ons. There's one or two (Flashplayer particularly) that can cause FF to hang momentarily with certain windows, so you have to restore FF back to an original version. I wish Mozilla or Flashplayer would sort their shit.

I'd been having the same problem but the freezes were intermittent but very long.

I no longer hit the IE icon but go connect to IE through the programs feature on the set-up.

No problems so far.
