Andy Flowers new role
New Role!
He's going to create his own Clone Army of dull toe the line analytic obsessed automatons!
That being said I think he has to be a better Coach than Kevin Shine!

Re: Andy Flowers new role
"The role will also involve researching the World's Best Practice in Coaching and Performance, drive and implement innovation in Coaching Practice and Technology, with and through the Fellowship of Elite Coaches and the National Cricket Performance Centre as well as recommending developments within ECB Coach Education and CPD Programmes."
Huh?
No wonder English cricket is f*cked. They have an amazing ability to over-complicate absolutely everything.
If only we could "implement" a captain with half a clue, or "CPD" a batsman capable of taking advantage of the power plays in ODI cricket.

Re: Andy Flowers new role
Surprisingly good news, if he can just de-numbers-wonk himself slightly.
It's the sort of thing he did best with England - technical coaching and performance building. In the long run, his difficulty getting "down and dirty" as head coach told against his success. (Not that I think it was by any stretch entirely his fault.)
But he achieved great things repairing after the Fletcher implosion, and building up a meaningful, combined team approach again. Ironic that precisely this fell apart at the end - just as Fletch's leadership had done.
And this time, I fear, the bloke to pick up the pieces and the team spirit HASN'T got what it takes, in terms of experience, judgment or understanding.

Yeah, I agree that he has to rise above the "managementspeak" bullshit his appointment has been grimly encased in, "for show".

Rikki Clarke to be appointed VC, and Jonathan Trott to be offered the Head Psychologist role?

Re: Andy Flowers new role
Flower said: "I am particularly excited about the chance to build and mould a leadership course which is not simply about captaincy but much more.
"This role offers me a chance to make a real contribution to the ability and character of England players and coaches in the years to come."
Yeah, develop a clone army of negative, unimaginative, inflexible, one-paced cricketers, and coaches to ensure it continues...

Floyd's lyric towards the end of "Time" off the Dark Side of The Moon album just about sums up Flower's methods.

Re: Andy Flowers new role
The lack of real change is laughable. Giles was a selector and the ODI coach when England were thumped 5-0, now he's likely to be the full time coach. Flower was the head coach, now he's going to be the "technical director of elite coaching" at Loughborough.

Re: Andy Flowers new role
If Flower had stepped aside at the Oval last summer, he would have had no shortage of offers of international coaching jobs in years to come. Now he's got that whitewash on his CV there's no guarantee of that any more, like the football manager who stays on too long and oversees relegation, so he's settling for what will probably be an overpaid hanger-on role.

Re: Andy Flowers new role
It's just words. He's seeing out his contract with the ECB, who don't want to pay him compensation so have created a bogus position for him to fill, to give the impression that he's working and they haven't really sacked him.
Re: Andy Flowers new role
That's been the case with Kevin Shite for about 5 years hasn't it, he must have had a contract of Pardew proportions...

No, I think they actually believe Shite is good at what he does.
If the new England coach (Giles, obviously) gets shot of David Saker, he'll probably be moved into Shine's role. Which would be an upgrade, albeit brought about in a haphazard manner - they won't have been trying to upgrade, just getting their money's worth from Saker's existing contract.
