It's a calculated gamble- fulfil the quotas in the squad without actually having the quality of the playing XI compromised.

No it's sheer stupidity. Everyone and his dog knows that Bavuma is not test standard. The trouble is that it creates false expectations. We went through the same shit with Tsolikile when Boucher was injured. What happens when a batsman goes down and Bavuma is next in line.
