http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/zimbabwe/content/current/story/330289.html

From the story:

Vladimir Rajkovic, a private psychiatrist in Harare, said Vermeulen, 29, was not disputing he had carried out the attacks but said his client had suffered from partial complex epilepsy and impulsive behaviour disorder after he was hit and injured by a cricket ball during a match in Australia.

And

Munyaradzi Madombiro, a government psychiatrist, said: "The damage that has been caused causes this behaviour." He added that the condition could only be controlled by medication and could not be cured.

Poor $od.

Oh by the way anyone read that it all happened in Australia? Troublemakers.

Unfortunately for Vermuelen, he had a reputation as a trouble maker with anger management issues right through his school days(He once stormed off the field with all six stumps after receiving a poor lbw decision), not just since 2004 when he was hit by that Pathan delivery. Actually, he was hit on the head at training in the 2003 world cup as well.

I hope the sentence isn't too harsh, though. The guy clearly has issues, and sending him to a Zimbabwean prison would be pretty much akin to a death sentence for an upper class, pretty well off white guy like him who in his poor mental state is likely to pick fights.

Maybe he should be exiled and allowed to qualify for another country.

A bit of a difference, though, between storming off with the stumps and torching head office...
