Re: Botham walking again
... so he's only actually walking 100 km of the total distance? That's how it reads to me.

England?
By this logic his John o'Groats to Land's End effort was about 5 miles of actual walking.

Re: Botham walking again
I think he actually walked the whole way, there.
It would appear he is doing 8 short walks in Saffieland, totalling 100 miles.
Are you still imperial devotees with length measurement or is that because it's a British story? If you're still into miles, fathoms and leagues, do you still do pounds and stones, or are you into kg?

I know he did. Was being facetious.
Yep, so walking across SA is erroneous.
SA converted fully in 1971. Only use Imperial when playing bowls.

Aye, the headline is misleading.
What is the rough distance from the Zim border to Cape Town, and from Durban to the west coast, taips ? The projection on most maps tends to distort the actual size of countries like SA compared with say Great Britain. I'm sure its far bigger than it looks.

Not sure will have a look. I know Joburg/Cape Town is just shy of 1000 miles.

Re: Botham walking again
Ta mate. In comparison, Lands End - John O'Groats is 830 miles or so. East-west it's about 350 miles from Lowestoft to St Davids, which is one of the widest point of mainland Britain.
A quick look tells me that SA, at 471,445 sq miles is the 24th largest country by area, over 5 times larger than UK (78th largest) at just 93,628 sq miles. That's the reality, but as I said - on a map it looks only just over twice the size.
