Re: Happy Bday Monkey
I'll be 57 next month. Fark! is there any hope for me?
I managed a couple of games of cricket in 2014, but none since and I think I am done. I resembled a shot camel when I "ran" after the ball or went for a "quick" single.

You're two months older than me. I'm still playing - can just manage the 40 over game, though it is tough on a hot day when you're being flogged. Have to field inside the circle or the returns are just too embarrassing ... ran one '3' this year, way too many '2's ... bowled >100 overs (that's a lot of pies) ... all good fun, with beers afterwards.

Good for you Lardy, enjoy it for as long as you can.

I am in awe of you both. My last social game was 11 years ago. Tore a hamstring when batting. They allowed a runner and fluked survival for another few overs. Then had a 2 hour drive home. Never again. Beach cricket, teaching little kids how to throw and hold a bat is all I can manage nowadays..

Re: Happy Bday Monkey
I have told lardy personally a number of times that I share that same awe, h. He and I are of similar vintage give or take a year, but I last played at 32, when I gave up to spend my weekends with my 2 young girls, rather than continue to torture my knees and ankles. I still miss the batting today, but not the aches and pains of Saturday evenings.

Doubt I could last a game umpiring nowadays. Embee deserves kudos.

I actually inquired about getting a run in C-grade with some kids a few years back but was told that because I was a former A-grade player (ferkin 25 years ago when I was fit, 15 kgs lighter and had eyes that worked, FFS!!!) I was ineligible to play a lower grade. I said "fark that!!" real quick smart.

Gave this some thought too, but my dodgy old back wouldn't cope with 5 hours of standing on a Satdy arvo. Would love to sledge the bowlers but.

I'd suggest umpiring Juniors but you need a WWC check

Re: Happy Bday Monkey
50 was my killer birthday. At 30 I was expecting my first child, was just looking forward to that. 40, had 3 girls, a job, etc to occupy me, it went by unnoticed. But 50, half a bleeding century! Dreaded it, finally felt ok the day after.

I'm just hopelessly addicted. They made me captain, so I couldn't leave.
