We have 469 Registered Users. Impressive?? Not really when you consider that 197 of them have never made a single post, and another 67 have made between 1 and 5 posts.
I don't believe we treat newbies harshly (DK Gilly aside - ya qunts!!) so why do these people register and then just not bother to join in??

Re: Registered Users
I think they have joined for different reasons. Some are journalists looking for interesting insights. Others are young sports fans who want to learn more about the great game of Rugby League but don't want to contribute to the discussion. And then there are some celebrities who are feeling a little under the weather & want to check if they have been nominated for the death thread. I know Zsa Zsa finds great solace in the knowledge that she is guaranteed to last until the end of the year because someone has nominated her to pop her clogs. There are also folk who are just interested in finding where they can buy a decent pair of foldable shoes.
But the biggest number are punters who want to find out who has been trevved or JGK'd. There is a lot of money to be made if this knowledge is used wisely.
Why they need to register is probably a bit of a mystery but I suspect they originally intend to post but then decide they don't really GAF. .......... or else they have joined so they can participate in the trivia questions but there rarely seems to be any. It has to be skully's fault.

Re: Registered Users
For what it’s worth, here are a few reasons straight from the hip:
1. Too many OT threads
2. Cliques and partisan opinions following non-cricketing agendas
3. One-sided damning of both LOI formats
4. Too many who believe they have truck-loads between their ears. They do, but not what they think they have
5. Subterranean language used and not appreciated by most Asians – with the exception of a few creepers, there are hardly any left.
6. High migratory tendencies leaving those that fit the above profile to be amongst themselves. ABC effect??
Let the fireworks begin.

I'll ignore the ones about language as I've not experienced it in my time here, or if I have, I've been too stupid to realise and thus making me immune to point 4.jim rich wrote:For what it’s worth, here are a few reasons straight from the hip:

Regarding limited overs formats, though, a regular series always leaves the question: what's the context? A team can win every series for the next four years, but if they fail in the world cup, they'd still be branded chokers, bottlers, failures or not good enough. In such a case, what are ODI series apart from the equivalent of international friendlies in football? Friendlies are often criticised as being pointless. This is also the worry I have with any world test championship.
Or in the case of Twenty20s, how many more premier leagues flogging the same product are there going to be? FWIW, I do realise that t20s are the best means to globalise the sport.
Regarding the off topic threads, I guess that's just attributable to fatigue of non stop cricket. Younger people are likelier to be much less jaded miserable ******. But there aren't too many around…
Now if you've read through all of that and are still awake, you can join me in being immune to point 4.

Damn straight. OT threads are sometimes the only thing that keep this place going.

Yes, and I can't complain being a serial offender who posts as much about golf as cricket.
