Early news sounds as though he too may have exhausted his will to live. There is a lot of that about.
" Groton Police conducted a well-being check on Geils and found him unresponsive at his home"
...Sounds like there was some concern prior to his death.

VALE FRED GOLDSMITH, 1955 BROWNLOW MEDALLIST
SOUTH Melbourne Brownlow medallist Fred Goldsmith has passed away, aged 84.
Recruited from Spotswood, Goldsmith played for South Melbourne between 1951 and 1959 in a VFL career spanning 119 games.
He won the Brownlow Medal as a full-back in 1955, having been recruited as a defender.
Sydney will wear black armbands during their Thursday match against West Coast at Domain Stadium as a tribute.

I doubt if the messenger boy called it the Charlie, but.
Peter Box now the oldest living Brownlow Medallist, although nobody connected with the Doggies or the AFL has communicated with him for decades.

Watched the ABC tribute to JC last night. Terrific show. Good that Keating put in an appearance. No Howard, Mad Monk or Truffles from the fascists was disappointing.

Frontline did alright by themselves. Maybe not as subtle or clever as they thought they were at times but only a wee notch below the games.
Though I saw them both at about the same time so my comparison might be different to others I spose.

RIP Allan Holdsworth, too, just a couple of days back. Highly influential guitarist.
Horrie might be the only other Aussie old enough to know of his work, but PeterCS would have come across him too.

I saw him and Gary Husband play at the Bridge Hotel in Rozelle in the early 90s. I would barely have been 20 I reckon and my muso uncle took me. Jazz fusion wasn't exactly my thing but Gary Husband was phenomenal.
