Re: Upcoming Test Cricket
Jesus horrie give it s rest. Handing Cummins the captaincy would be a disaster. Get off Paine's back.

Re: Upcoming Test Cricket
Larkin???
Zampa or Swepson ???
Renshaw won't even be close if Shield form in the last couple of years is dictating spots in doubt.
oh my sides, why no mention of Cameron Boyce when the spinner's position is mentioned I wonder? We are talking Tests, horrie. In Tests right now, Lyon's only (semi) serious challengers are Holland, Fawad, and NoSpinner.

Re: Upcoming Test Cricket
bnlg will never select Holland. Battles with the bulge even though he is more likely to take wickets than the others, inc Lyon.
Renshaw had a reasonable return to SS. I like his technique and he is the best slipper since White, but think bnlg kicked all confidence out of him.
An actual coach rather than a personal rah rah machine like Langer would help

I like Renshaw too, but he just hasn't made enough runs at FC level in recent times to be seriously considered.

indeed
he made 180 runs in his last match, about the same as he made for Queensland in the whole 2019-2020 season, during which he only narrowly averaged more than 20

Re: Upcoming Test Cricket
Rumour on SEN is Weed has been dropped from Test Squad for SA but will go to NZ for the white ball nonsense. Carey is the replacement.
Bizarre if they are making these decisions now ahead of the Shield.
Wade as a specialist batsman is just not up to snuff at Test level. If true his contribution as a blue collar player should be acknowledged.
He has plenty of detractors inc here.

Warner, Head, Carey, Reeks FFS, Harris are all lucky to be there. Plsed for Swepson and Steketee.
Hppefully Shield form will be assessed in finalising the squad.

hehe. CA loves him. His Shield form iirc had been ok.
Is Marsh injured again? Thought he was playing Babel. If it came to an invidious choice between the two I'd go for Reeks.

Re: Upcoming Test Cricket
The CA rubbish announcement cited Carey's great BBL form.
CA seems to be keen on both Carey and Head as future leaders. Given the abject rudderless performances of the Jellybacks their leadership credentials are murky.

Re: Upcoming Test Cricket
For those who don't like links:
Australia Test squad for Qantas Tour of South Africa: Tim Paine (c), Sean Abbott, Alex Carey, Pat Cummins, Cameron Green, Marcus Harris, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Moises Henriques, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Michael Neser, James Pattinson, Will Pucovski, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Mark Steketee, Mitchell Swepson, David Warner.
Probably about the best squad we could pick, given the bareness of our batting cupboard.
I agree that selections like Reeks, Harry and Blowey are pretty obnoxious picks. All proven not to be up to Test cricket v the top dogs.
Can't criticise the picks of Carey, Swepson and Steketee.

7 wickets at 43 is the form you want to be included in the Test touring squad

Hohns has come out in defense of ima , claiming the criticism he got was unfair.
FFS did Hohns have his head up his arse??

Jhye Richardson should be ahead of Steketee, if we're picking a stand alone squad

Re: Upcoming Test Cricket
I am still stunned at the Carey selection. He has had one red ball game in 11 months.
Does Hohns exist merely to irrefutably prove how dumb Qlders are?
The Tour is SA if it happens will not commence until the first week of March. There was no rush in naming the Squad.
Hopefully CA will demand all the named Squad must play and perform well in Shield matches to secure their position. Cummins and Hazlewood should be excused.

I thought you were going to say his Head up his Marnus.
More importantly, on a scale of 0-100, how confident are you that you'll knock over the Setheffrikens? They're not exactly world-beaters at the moment.

Marnus, is one of the very few non problems with the test side atm.
Even allowing for the Saffies struggling atm, would have them as favorites to win the series.
In terms of numbers a 40% chance of Aus winning.

Re: Upcoming Test Cricket
SAf tour postponed
Australia’s Test tour of South Africa has been postponed due to health concerns, Cricket Australia confirmed late Tuesday evening.
The Aussies were scheduled to fly out for a three-Test series later this month but CA’s interim chief executive Nick Hockley said travelling to South Africa posed “unacceptable” risk to the touring party.
South Africa is battling a second wave of COVID-19 and a new variant of the virus.
“Following extensive due diligence with medical experts, it has become clear that traveling from Australia to South Africa at this current time poses an unacceptable level of health and safety risk to our players, support staff and the community,” Hockley said in a statement.

Was always gonna be the case.
