Re: Upcoming Test Cricket
Kraigg Braithwaite has replaced Jason Holder as the Gangas skipper for the series v Sri Lanka. He had stood in for Holder on their tour of the Bangles. Holder is in the Squad.
Holder had been skipper from age 23.
Like most cricket fans I think all of us had the utmost respect for Holder's leadership during a period when the Gangas viability as a Test competitor was almost shot.
Apparently* he has not made a public comment.

Re: Upcoming Test Cricket
Lankans have a couple of hit and giggle tours coming up. One to Bangladesh then a 2nd to the UK (June/July) but no Tests appear to be scheduled.
Similarly the Paksters are touring the UK in July but the Future Series link on Dickinfo indicates only One Dayers.
Is this bulltwang?

it says 3 ODIs & 3 T20s.
next Tests of substance is Eng vs NZ, then the World Championship thing (NZ vs India), then Eng vs India
then we're just trying to get T20 match practice for the T20WC in October for where-ever they switch it to (UAE?)

Re: Upcoming Test Cricket
Yeah, we’ve got India and NZ visiting for Test cricket this summer. The two of them conveniently play a WTC final while they’re here.
First Test with the Snoozers starts 2nd June.

Re: Upcoming Test Cricket
Afghanistan v Australia in Hobart before the First Ashes Test at the Gabba. Also, Perth now gets the Fifth Test, with Sydney's Test now scheduled earlier in the series.

Re: Upcoming Test Cricket
so not much room in the schedule for warm-up/tour games. I guess we can slot a 2-day game in there somewhere.

Re: Upcoming Test Cricket
Sounds like Australia’s inaugural Test with Afghanistan will go ahead later in the year. The Taliban are saying they won’t ban (men’s) cricket, though remains to be seen whether they stick to that, and how many of their players take up permanent residence elsewhere and potentially end up playing for other countries.

Re: Upcoming Test Cricket
Looks like the test against Afghanistan is in doubt because of the Taliban takeover. The ICC. stipulates that Test countries field both men & womans teams, however the retards that now govern Afghanistan have only sanctioned a mens team.
Re: Upcoming Test Cricket
Yeah, they’ve pretty much confirmed they’re banning women’s sport.Big Dog wrote:Looks like the test against Afghanistan is in doubt because of the Taliban takeover. Could see them booted out of the WT20 as well, and a scramble to naturalise their best players by other Test nations.

Looks unlikely that Hobart will have a test match this coming Summer.

Re: Upcoming Test Cricket
Sports and Politics is always an ugly mix.
Still, the Taliban are a bunch of qunts when it comes to the treatment of women, so I can understand the Govt's and therefore CA's views.
CA have come a long way with womens cricket so it would be a bit bizarre "supporting" (or at least not opposing) the philistine policies of the Taliban.

Maybe now the US and UK have abandoned ship, the Aussies could go in and retake Afghanistan, in the interests of human rights and, most importantly, cricket?

Oz soldiers are too busy facing charges over slaughtering unarmed civilians.
The first Iraq war 30 years ago really has set up a 100 year+ war.

That one was actually necessary though, to stop a country illegally annexing a neighbour…horace wrote:beamer wrote:Maybe now the US and UK have abandoned ship, the Aussies could go in and retake Afghanistan, in the interests of human rights and, most importantly, cricket?

The entire Middle East has been a 2000-year war, essentially, with other countries having to intervene to protect themselves from time to time. And it won’t stop until the region is a hole in the ground (well, they’d still probably fight over the rubble…) or perhaps when religion has disappeared from the world.
