None of this strength and conditioning shit, coaching all the raw pace out of them. We’ll always find reasonably accurate 80mph swing and seam bowlers who can roll teams over in English conditions, so we can leave that department to look after itself.
That's it in a nutshell, military mediums who can move into in pommieland often don't cut the mustard here. They don't seem to produce many with scintillating pace.
Probably the biggest problem is that Jimmy doesn't put his hand up away from home.
He used to be able to play away. Can remember him flogging his heart out in India a few years ago. However at his age he needs curdled pitch conditions and the Duke to be effective.

Maybe horrie, but the fact is that he averages 24 in England and about 40 in both Aus and SA, two countries where quickies should thrive.

I'm out, going to pretend it's not happening. Ashes tours just aren't fun.

Remember when an Ashes thread would get hundreds of pages and actually run out of thread leading to part IIs, IIIs, IIIIs and more.

Aye LLL. Less than good times.
Fact is these are also two average teams. Few players from either side will be remembered as champs by future generations.

It's more about a maturing forum than the quality of cricket.

I very much doubt future generations will be watching test cricket.

Steve Smith would need an extraordinary run of bad form to not end as a Great
Shit captaincy and a fidgety technique (and possible failings as a human ) get forgotten over time
Big statistical numbers do not
Chef Jimmeh and Lady Di already have the numbers

Well said, A.
h has regrettably become ridiculously critical and bitter about ALL things in life of late. I worry about our good mate. It seems to have coincided with his departure from the workforce.
Perhaps lack of human contact is weighing negatively on him.
C'mon, smile h, it's not ALL bad.
Regarding our cricketers, I have always taken the view that criticism is fair when it's well due (and allowed to be vociferous), but equally, when they do well a loud "huzzah" is called for and much deserved.

I just saw the Cook and Vince's combined fumble and drop in the slips cordon. Just the kind of thing that's dead funny once you know no one's injured.
There's an article in cricinfo as Marsh's straight six off Broad as a defining image of this Ashes.
This may well be in the running also:

I thought substitute fieldsmen were normally outstanding at that part of the game. That young bloke wouldn't be used as a sub by the Chinghee Creek B grade team.

Why would an umpire give that out? It was always going to be a mile too high!

I did say few. Would certainly inc Seasick and the three Poms as players who will be remembered as champs. Lyon will be remembered as a v good player.

Huh?
Still doing bits and pieces of work. Of course I'm watching-listening to the cricket. At the moment I'm in the Public Bar of the Caledonian Pub in downtown Echuca. Avoiding non cricket chatter with the locals. They are a few blokes here who sound like QBillies. One of them laughed before when I cursed the fakin DRS.
Ex Mrs H is due to finish and then we head back to Castlemaine.
Even with the handicap of the Koalas, that team would shred our current mob.
And btw, I did acknowledge Stinking Bogs effort and Paine' s improved performance in the second innings at Brisbane. And I have only been positive about Bangers.

I don't think you realise just how crotchety you've been in the past few months, h.
Even laid back chaps like lardy have taken issue with your negative harping.
Carry on, old fruit, it matters not to me. It was more an observation on my part.
And as I write this, Elmer snares Chef!!!!

Aye, it was odd. Dar seemed to think it was not out then belatedly changed his mind. Didn't look out live.

Admit to ennui about the relentless boosting of Bailey and Paine.
The final straw with CA and the NSP for me was the recall of the sokpoc. The selection of Bog after his dismal tour has not helped.
