Awful innings by Smith's standards.

4-53 at Stumps. Aus lead by 268.
Another 200 tomorrow would be nice, but one suspects that England facing similar conditions tomorrow night might just about fold.

Aye. Can't understand so little consideration of the follow on.
England may have been 7-fer under those conditions.

Agree, one can understand wanting to rest the bowlers, but the under lights factor has to be taken into account.
Also think in d/n conditions all the overs should be bowled.

I think you're alright. In those conditions and with the amount of playing and missing going on it could have been 7-8 down and bowled out for less than 100 tomorrow. Now, England will be chasing at least 350 with some nice fresh bowlers coming at them (probably in similar conditions to this evening).

Looked pretty similar to all his innings in England when the ball was doing a bit.

I think red was referring to Graeme Smith.

Well, the bowlers fought back in helpful conditions, Smith made a mistake not enforcing the follow on or it would have been over in a session tomorrow, but the damage was already done.
What the actual fark is Mark Ramprakash being paid for? He averaged sub-30 as a Test batsman himself and is seemingly coaching a generation of players to achieve the same. He’d have stronger credentials to be a Strictly Come Dancing judge than he does for this job.

Smith has given England a get out of jail free card by not enforcing the follow on. England are a good chance to salvage a draw now.

Is there a solid day of rain forecast or something?Big Dog wrote:Smith has given England a get out of jail free card by not enforcing the follow on. England are a good chance to salvage a draw now.

Fwiw I think Smith made the right call. Given clement weather I think Aus will close out the game quite easily.

Agree, but wont be easy. Outside the night sessions, Oz will rely heavily on Elmer. Maybe it is the underwhelming quality of the batting across both teams, but the pitch seems less of a road. The Pomgolians are not without a chance. If their top order fails again, could be time to give Ballance a go?

Re: Australia v England, 2nd Test, Adelaide, 2-6 December, 2017
If we can scratch out another 100, it should be enough. That will get us to the evening session, where good bowling should see England in trouble.
Still, I'm with everyone above. Enforcing the follow-on seemed a no-brainer.
