Karunaratne is possibly the only understandable pick after captaining in South Africa. Dropping Chandimal makes little sense. At least Dickwella has been awful in recent times in ODIs. Even Mathews was recently dropped from the ODI side.

He was probably only a standby anyway, but unfortunate for him given how often he’s been in that awkward “next cab off the rank” slot with one game at the end of a series to impress.

Ollie Pope (though more likely a Test rather than ODI prospect) has suffered the same injury, so another blow for England.

I see Alex Hales has been withdrawn from the England WC squad due to a recent "non-cricket related indiscretion".
