It will last at least 4 full days in my opinion, quote me later if not but i see no way it can be over by Monday. Pope should have been left out because you don't drop someone playing like Curran, it's plain daft. Again quote me but i don't see Pope getting 50 between his two innings and Sam would be more valuable to the side overall. Still, we sit here moaning and they're the experts so time will tell.
Saturday's shout wasn't the worst.

Shall we run a book on how many balls England will last?
I'm saying 8.

Paddy Power already paid me my £400. Lovely jubbly as they say near the oval.

I see Lady Di has copped a fine for a sendoff...not that he would GAF at this stage.

Another bowling all-rounder wouldn’t have improved our chances. We do actually need to find some top order batsmen from somewhere. Even Root is being dragged down to the level of those around him now, those unconverted 50s are turning into unconverted 15s. He’s clearly short of form as it’s most unlike him how he’s been struggling to get off the mark in recent innings, but the game situations aren’t helping.whitburn wrote:whitburn wrote:We're going to the first 3 days of the game and we all arrived in Nottingham this morning early to get a feel of the city. Maybe it is worth trying one or more of the all-rounders up the order, even opening, just because we’ve tried nearly everything else, and they’re coming in at 80-4 or 100-5 on a regular basis anyway. But then that could mean we’re playing 6 or 7 man attacks, and a very unbalanced looking side.
Ideally though we find a “boring” batsman or two, someone who can average say 35 but make the opposition really work for his wicket.

I’ve thought for a while that Stokes could bat at three. His technique against fast bowling is as good as any player going around. He could become more a ‘Kallis’ type all rounder than a Botham/flintoff type. Unlike those other two, batting is Stokes’s number one skill. He’s a genuine batsman who bowls.

You honestly think Stokes is a test number 3? I think he is way too ''20-20'' for that, i really haven't seen a number 3 in his play yet.

Flintoff started off as a batsman who bowled, and ended up as a bowler who (just about) batted, so career paths for all-rounders can be hard to predict. Stokes will probably have to pull his weight as first change seamer at least once Anderson retires.
Stokes clearly showed a patient approach yesterday, so is capable of it. But if none of he, Bairstow and Buttler can or want to bat higher than 5 then it’s probably too much of a luxury selection to pick them all.

He's a six at best. Averages well under 40

Aye and it's not just his average it's his method. For me he is a score as soon as possible kind of batsman, whereas number 3 is a ''omg we're 0-1 i have to pitch the tent out there'' position in the team.

Lost in all the above is the Bannies got off the canvas and played well in a comprehensive win. Congrats to them in breathing life into the series.
Kohli has now top scored in 5 of 6 Bannie innings. He was second top behind Ashtray in the other.

We’d take anyone who could average over 30 in the top four right now.taipan wrote:whitburn wrote:You honestly think Stokes is a test number 3? I think he is way too ''20-20'' for that, i really haven't seen a number 3 in his play yet.

Is there any truth to the story punters turning up for Day 5 were charged 10 Quid to enter.

Stokes should work on his bowling so he may become a semi decent allrounder

They were going to charge 10 quid then local radio had a moan and it was just donations to charity on the day.
I'd long since made the 150 mile journey north by then.
