I don't think he should be going on shows like this with his past mental health issues.

Oh dear.

Monty seems destined for a life of tragi-comedy. 

Early in his Test career he was the Mitch Marsh of fielding. He couldn't catch, throw and the crowd would cheer when he managed to stop the ball. His batting was pretty funny as well. 

But he clearly worked hard on these deficits and improved. He was in my view a terrific bowler and one who never gave up.

Hope things work out for him

just reinforces that while some people are gifted at sports, they are dumb as a box of rocks

1) The programme producers probably set him up for the fall. (Meaning: they normally screen/test-run proposed contestants for such quiz/trivia shows, and don't just take them off out of the car and shove them in the hot seat. It doesn't seem they tried very hard there.)

2) Even bright people may wilt under spotlights. ~ Which is part of what you're saying, I think. But don't put up Panesar himself for even more ridicule - ask rather why he was allowed to make a fool of himself (or perhaps, be made a fool of, a la "Weakest Link" and other public brutalisation rituals).
