Can't really understand Smith not being taken at $375k.
Doe his performance in the 1st 2 T20s v Lanka answer your question?? He was sad.
Saw him run a guy out from 40 m and almost save the game with his backwards Superman effort.

Tru dat. Even NoShowPony achieved a run out in the Super Over, so both achieved minor redemption for poor batting displays (and catching in NSP's case).

And congratulations to the IPL Player Auctions for scaling the Centrepoint Tower heights of tedium previously only managed by the AFL Draft....

Aye Nerkles. it was boring as batshit.
Tuned in for 5 mins to see if any Aussies came up. But it was mainly nondescript Bannies. It was one big pass-athon.

Genuinely, though... why would anyone watch an auction or draft (excluding maybe the extreme fans)? They're all going to be boring as batshit.

Good question.
The target audience is also happy to watch T20; I think your answer is clear.

I'm not going to take the moral high ground on that.... we've just seen a competent test side beat a barely FC standard batting team over 20 days in one of the worst series that I can remember.

Around 2004 or 2005 they held the AFL Draft on a Saturday morning, starting at 11.00 half an hour after the start of play for the day in the first Test of the summer (in a classic example of AFL territorial dick-waving scheduling typical of the era). I was in the pub nursing a BL&L and watching the cricket and one of the other punters demanded that the idiot box be turned over to the Draft, on the cast-iron principle of 'this is Melbourne and it's AFL so all else is insignificant'. In the minor 'animated discussion' that followed, somebody offered to 'grab the phone book and read random numbers and names out to you - it will be just as entertaining!' (Which turned out to be incorrect - the next name to be pulled out of the draft hat was the always entertaining - even after 300 plus listings on the Hawthorn team sheet - 'Jarryd Roughead')

Superb series, marred only by Smith’s unsuccessful final over in Sydney.

Caught a Foxy "mini" of Buttler's latest game yesty. He is in some sort of form at the moment.
Who'd be a bowler in this current comp? The grounds seem even smaller than normal as 6s rain into the crowd.

And should this thread be rikkied? It is just about the most active thread in here atm.
Or are we philosophically opposed to such a move?

Re: IPL thread
No idea who plays for who or even what most of the teams are called these days. All that ever registers with me is hearing about individual feats, but perhaps that’s the point, it’s social media cricket, where people follow players more than teams. Like those football fans who would wear a Messi or Ronaldo shirt of whichever team he happened to be playing for.

Aye beams. It really takes a standout effort, ala Buttler's current run of big hitting big scores, to pique my interest and cause me to have a look at some IPL snippets.

Re: IPL thread
I've watched the first innings of a few games recently. Clearly some young talent there but FMD it seems like the same game put on repeat each time.

Re: IPL thread
A record fourth century in a season for Buttler.
For all his white-ball heroics it does make you think what a force he could have been in the longer game, in the Gilchrist role behind a decent top six, rather than having to clear up the mess at two-figures-for-5, which wasn’t his strength. Imagine Cook, Strauss, Trott, Root, Pietersen, Collingwood or something like that, with Buttler at 7!
