Bangladesh v Sri Lanka, 1st Test, Chattogram, 15-19 May, 2022
Shakib back for the Bangles, a host of new players for Sri Lanka, playing under the guidance/handicap of England coaching reject Chris Silverwood for the first time.

Sri Lanka puts up 4-258 on day 1 with Angelo Matthews still there having made his 12th Test century, and plenty of batting still to come. Tough for the Bangers from here with the wicket likely to take more and more turn from day 3.
Matthews now has well over 6000 Test runs at a good average ... one of the best batting records amongst current Test players. For Sr Lanka, he sits 4th on the all-time run scorers list and is quite likely to overtake Jayasuriya in 3rd within the year. Incredibly, he has made just two blobs in around 170 trips to the Test wicket. Hopefully I’ve not cursed him through noting that.
Not sure why crocinfo still has him listed as an allrounder, though.

He’s had injuries, I understand.
Shakib is also back, for the Bangles.

Unlucky Angie… can’t have been too many of those in Test cricket. Remember Matthew Elliott being yorked by Gough on 199 in the ‘97(?) Ashes. Did the Belf once get one as well?

Mathews’ 199 is in fact the 12th in Test cricket - curiously the first was not until 1984.
The list contains Mudassar, Azharuddin, Elliott, Jayasuriya, S Waugh, Younis Khan, Bell, Steve Smith, KL Rahul, Elgar and du Plessis. Bizarrely, since 2015 more batsmen have been out for 199 than for 99! Martin Crowe remains the only instance of 299.

So, in reply to Sri Lanka's 397, Bangladesh have reached 0/76 at stumps.
Tamim Iqbal - 35*
Mahmudul Hasan Joy - 31*
What I want to know is this:- When Joy plays limited over games & walks to the wicket with an appropriate piece of music playing, which one does he choose? Would he appear with Beethoven's "Ode To Joy" belting out, or maybe Jeremiah was a bullfrog "Joy To The World" or possibly the Christmas Carol of the same name?

Or something a bit more modern (well, ‘90s anyway…)

There seems to be a bit of Joy Division, above.
Perhaps with such unremitting Bliss, he might be forum-recognised as Harry Joy?

Apparently Angelo is the first player to be dismissed on 199 and 99 in Tests.
S Waugh had a 199 and a 99* (when his brother was run out while runner for the No 11 batsman).

6-78 (SL) and 0-162 was a great comeback by the Bangers. 2 wickets lost since but.

Draw looks almost certain with the Bangles 3-300+.
Moosef*cker is still there, Shakib is yet to come, Tamim Iqbal retired hurt for 133 and can perhaps return ... the only hope of a result now is the Bangles getting to a lead of 150+ on day 4 and knocking Sri Lanka over cheaply on day 5 for an innings win.

Bangers going well. A 550+ total might indeed make it interesting

Bangers fell away after Das fell with the score on 385. Tamim returned to the wicket on 133 but went 1st ball.
Still, they scratched up a 68 run lead and Lanka lost 2 late wickets to be 2-39.
Hard to see a result from here unless the Banger spinners run through Lanka to set a small chase.

Bangers are still a chance here - 55 overs left, SL have 5 wickets left and are 84 ahead.
Tanjirul Islam has 4 of the 5 wickets so far (the other being a RO).
