Formula One 2023

The next iteration of this annual championship commences in just on two weeks - March 3, just after the next India v Australia is likely to conclude!

Will it just be Verstappen v Hamilton again? Will Alonso step up in improved equipment? Any surprises in store from Alpine or McLaren?

It was Verstappen v nobody for most of last year, lost interest halfway through… hopefully Mercedes will have a revival and/or Ferrari will keep it going for a full season.

From a British point of view as well as Lewis having a crack at number 8 it would be good to see Russell or Norris right in the mix. The latter will be partnered by the young Aussie Piastri who will be interesting to watch, there was plenty of competition for his services.

Looks like another snoozefest of a season coming up.

Aston Martin and Alonso may yet undermine that assessment.

I think the most they’ll do is leave Mercedes and Ferrari with a bit of egg on their faces. If Alonso wins a race it will be a story in itself.

Piastri qualified third! McLarens both in the mix, and Albon in a Williams qualified in 8th.

3pm start, that’s a strange one… have to say cricket, tennis and cycling rank higher in my viewing priorities this afternoon.

No doubt. No interest in the tennis, but cycling yes.

First corner not so boring in Qatar. Hamilton takes out his team-mate through reckless selfishness; scenes reminiscent of Prost and Senna!

Verstappen of course was left to cruise to victory. It is good to see McLaren as a strong team again, with Piastri and Norris in P2 and p3.

Mexico providing interest as well, beyond the actual winner. Ricciardo scored points in the Alpha Tauri!

I think de Vries is the only driver all season to have not scored paints …
