Maybe now, but not when Bruce was at his peak.

ScoBo ‘rested’ again.?
Pitch is a belter. Will take spin on Day 4. Puzzling decision to send the Oppo in.
Great knock from Charley Wakim who is making the most of his Autumnal career.

Shield umpiring at it's best on show at the SCG today. 6 lbws given - DRS probably would've overruled most.

Lol… decades of studying at the feet of the master Mr JGK finally paid off.
Webster stiff to not get a ton but really he could have put the foot down in his knock where he meandered a bit. As did Toz with bat and ball.
Pitch will take a lot of spin on D 4
Lack of intent from Toz is risking a snore draw here.

Lol…. Great effort with the ball from the now perennially humiliated Spivs. But their shyte batting has the Worsties sliming back into it.
Good start by the Jellybacks. Hunt, most overrated bat in Oz, finally makes a score and avoids being dropped.

Tassie playing for a draw. Silk won’t take the new ball and there is no slip. Pathetic.
The Spivs are murdering Worsties…. Davies gets his maiden ton.

Webster played out a maiden after Rainbird came to the crease at *11, so he only has himself to blame for the missed 100. Got the red ink; perhaps he was after that. As a mate of mine would say; ‘good 50’.

Remember Chris Tremain?
He was being talked up as a possible Test bowler many years ago.

Re: Sheffield Shield 2023-2024
Tas v Vic most likely headed for a draw; Tas effectively 1-94 in their second innings with only one day to go. If they don't collapse and hand victory to the Vilks, maybe they'll declare after lunch and set a challenging target of 250?
WA v NSW headed to disaster for the Wozzies, perhaps even an innings victory. Bancroft's lone hand in the second innings won't have done him any harm in his quest to replace Warner when the time comes ... obviously he can bat when nobody else can make runs. Tremain could force his way past one of our usual "top 3 seamers" and Boland, especially in Perth.
SA v QLD looks like a draw, already. Slow scoring, and no chance that QLD will declare behind or be dismissed by the weak Sozzie attack. Neser seems to have become a batsman these days ...

Had to check the Aus v SAf game in Tas in 2016. I knew some Neville Barrel bowler played one Test (along with Callum Ferguson) and I wrongly thought it was Tremain.
It was, in fact, Joe Mennie.

Re: Sheffield Shield 2023-2024
Meanwhile, Henry Hunt (remember him?) and Marcus Harris (ditto) both rattle off big tons just as the vultures start to circle.....and bicranial Caleb Jewell, who in some opinions had taken hooray Henry's gig as possible next Test opener, hands in his third double miss for the new summer.
Of course there's another opener who's made runs at will for the last 14 months but obviously it's not even worth mentioning his name....
Mennie, like his State partner Sayers, was arguably unlucky not to play more than one Test - especially in each case given the one each of them did rock up for. 'The Event' wasn't and won't be lucky enough to get that many.

Worrall, Sayers, Mennie and Boland were all scrapping for a Test or ODI at that point. Mennie got the nod in Hobart over Bird, the local expert, who would have been well suited to the conditions! I was at that game, which was - as Fred infers - not a match.

Yep...and as I recall Tweet made them look even more like twits by batting extremely well in his Shield match at the same time as the Hobart schemozzle.

interesting that Skipper UK has again opted not to open. Both Street and Renshaw opened in this game, giving them a chance to audition.

Starting tomorrow in Perth: WA v SA
Starting Thursday at the MCG: VIC v QLD
Starting Saturday at Bellerive: Tas v NSW
Auditions for Australia’s Test opening position are ongoing. Other positions are only likely to open up due to injury, at this stage.
