Windies stars likely to miss tests against Aus
Seems the Windies board is nervous of preventing them from playing IPL in case all the players choose to quit the test team in favour of easy bucks in India . . .

If Crystal Gayle and Ronnie Sarwan are 'cricket stars', the surf at Frankston is a tidal wave.
Chanders would be a massive loss. Re the other two clowns: who cares?

They are stars in the Windies, Nerky, just like Hodge is a star in Victoria.

They're just big fish in a small pond. They're pretty much useless to its sustainability.
Being a 'star' is fine, but the difference between 'stars' like the Three Stooges at Somerset in the mid-80s (the Botham v Roebuck era) and 'stars' like for instance Allan Border in the first half of his captaincy stint or Nathan Buckley at Collingwood for most of his career, is that AB and Buckley produced when they was needed. Where do Gayle and Sarwan stand on that line?

Nerky, if you read the link you would have seen that the Windies feel they can cover the loss in this case, but it raises a problem for the future in that unless the ICC creates an "IPL window" the Windies will always be hamstrung in playing test series at this time of the year. If they take a stand, they could lose a lot of players, and if they don't they are at the mercy of the IPL.

Correct. But at the same time the WICB appointed Gayle captain. So we could be without our skipper for 2 tests against the best team in the World.

Re: Windies stars likely to miss tests against Aus
I am yet to be convinced about the sustainable financial viability of the IPL.
The mixed assortment of players, national and international artificially assigned to a city is not working for ICL, no reason it can be anymore successful for IPL despite all the hype and the following that some of the individual stars command.
ICL is now thinking about international teams to get the passionate fan back.
Being BCCI they just took the ICL idea and put more money and hype into it. How it all stacks up in maintaining the fan's interest has not been thought through. As with the concept ICL will work it out and BCCI will try and pinch the idea again.
