Boycs was an opening batsman though- comparisons with middle order stroke makers are a bit flawed.

Chappell though came in at #3 at a time when the Aussie openers were pox. Boycott sidestepped Lillee and Thommo at their peak in 72/5. Walked out on the 72 series once he'd realised that Lillee and Massie were pretty hot to handle.
