Re: Come Back Fletch, All is Forgiven...
Everyone was calling out for "specialists" earlier in the season, and if we'd picked Cook, Bell and Panesar we would have had people giving the selectors stick for the opposite reason. Some even advocated dropping the likes of KP, Colly and Fred due to their lack of Twenty20 experience and instead going with a whole squad of county performers! This squad seemed a decent compromise, with the majority of Test/ODI regulars and a few experimental picks based on their county record in this competition.
It's a fair point that your best cricketers should be able to adapt to any form of the game. There's going to be one or two who are clearly unsuited to Twenty20, and a few of our Test batsmen are not known for big hitting or unorthodox strokes so there's going to be two or three vacancies at the top of the order. We'll manage to fill them at some stage, what would we give to discover another Trescothick right now?

I wasn't.

I think I might have been. The formula to T20, if there is one, is to have a long batting lineup. The English way to acheiving a long batting lineup is to have loadsa dibbly-dob allrounds at 6/7/8/9.
Aus, SaF and Pakistan have proper allrounders and even specialist bats in those positions.
