India-Pak cricket stats-records for the meticulous!
Some meaningless records that probably don't hold too much value anymore. There was a time such events created a flutter. Ah well. Here we go.....
*Yesterday India beat Pak in Asia Cup after 20 years [Applause please]
*This is the 6th time India has chased 300 or more successfully, a record for now [Twice v/s Pak and Eng, Once each v/s SA and WI - Drumrolls please]
*This is probably the fastest or second fastest or third fastest time a side has chased successfully 300 or more in lesser overs. [Red carpets out please]
*This is another example of UMB having bad luck and failing against a proper cricket side. [Sheesh, when will this post be over]
*This is the 4th time Pak has failed to defend a score of 300 or more in ODIs. [They should feel privileged to be in the company of Aus sharing this record with them]
*India has now won 5 consecutive matches in Pakistan, another record. [More ad shoots for our players please]
* Sri Lanka has chased 300 or more successfully 4 times and is second best currently in the record.
[This thread is instant boredom and sleep pill]
* Both India and Pak have achieved such successful run chases against each other twice. [Yawnnnnn]
*Hopefully this thread will keep SG occupied and busy for the next one day
Here SG, I hand over this thread to you. Keep yourself updated.
For the rest, a look at the following link shows Aus in a very humorous light viz the highest scoring losses against SA [Couldn't defend 420+ FFS and NZ thrice against the Kiwis? Can the fans live this down?]
Highest innings totals batting second - Link!

It was Bangladesh Independence Cup. Not an Asia Cup. Infact, India had even missed the last Asia Cup due to political reasons, at the peak of frost in Indo-Pak cricket sometime back.doremi wrote:*Yesterday India beat Pak in Asia Cup after 20 years [Applause please]

Harrrrrrr.
Thought the post below bears repetition here.....
Well let's see after the Sharjah Desert Storm of 1998 when he ravaged the Aussies in that final, he helped is win a similiar trophy well after a decade against Aus again. Apart from that India successfully chased 300 or more 6 times in ODIs since Independence Cup 1998. Sachin didn't play in 2 of those [against WI in 2003 at home and the last match against Pak a couple of days back]. Of the 4 times he was in the team when we achieved the targets, he has one 50+ score [in England last year scoring 95], scored 40 odd in that Pak final in 1998 and was a flop in the remaining two.
So go figure and feel free to draw your own conclusions.

And unfortunately there won't be a Sachin Tendulkar to blame this time as well!!!

India now have 328 wins and 327 defeats not taking into account tied/abandoned/unplayed games in ODIs, so finally the win rate is over taking the loss ratio.
But I wonder if I will ever live to see the day when the same correction will happen in our test record?

Re: India-Pak cricket stats-records for the meticulous!
Bah. there used to be a time when I used to fret about losing more JAMODIs than winning when we had prolonged bad seasons. Now I realize it was a lot of misplaced zeal, wondering why we can't have a better win-loss record in tests like Aus has.
A 50%+ win record in tests would be very very nice and satisfactory. Our backlog of head to head defeats against sides like Eng, Aus, SA, WI and Pak is too long to overcome in 30 years even if we end up having a champion side like Australia over successive 2 eras...
It has taken a team like Aus nearly 20 years of great sides led by 4 greasides led by captains like Border, Tubby, Tugga and the current side to get over the negatievs of their test records against their traditional tormentors like Eng and WI.

It might take 15-20 years for IND to catch up to PAK in ODIs but if PAK produce another bowler like Waqar, Imran or even Shoaib then it might take 30 years.

the gap is 22, so yeah at the rate of even 2 a year its at least 11 years
more importantly in tests its 3, which can be erased over 2 series

it stands at 67-45 at the moment. if we play 7 odis a year on average and india win say 70% of them, then it may take 9-10 years. the pak win % is down below 60% now. tests stand at 12-9 so we could make it up within a couple of years.
it could take pak about 25-30 years to even up the world cup record though

Either way it will take a lot of time.
I don't expect the trees in PAK to stay barren for 10-12 years so a quality fast bowler will almost certainly come before that.
