India back Zimbots
Future of Zimbabwe cricket
India likely to back Zimbabwe
Cricinfo staff
June 27, 2008
The BCCI is unlikely to support any stringent action against Zimbabwe at the ICC's annual meeting in Dubai next week, a top Indian board official has indicated.
"We have always supported Zimbabwe cricket and have nothing to do with the political situation there," a senior BCCI official told Cricinfo. "In fact, we are a bit surprised that the issue has been brought up once again since the ICC board had discussed this last year and decided clearly that politics and cricket can't be mixed. The BCCI believes that a country's politics and its cricket don't go together. There is no reason to change our stand now."
On Monday, Cricket South Africa announced it was suspending its bilateral agreement with Zimbabwe Cricket, citing the worsening "general situation" there. That was quickly followed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) scrapping a proposed tour by Zimbabwe in 2009 after the British government advised them it would support such action.
Speaking to Sky Sports on Wednesday, David Morgan, who will take over from Ray Mali as ICC president at the end of the annual meeting next week, welcomed action against Zimbabwe but warned: "It will be a very difficult discussion. India and Zimbabwe are close and India's position is crucial in all this, for sure."

BCCI to back Zimbabwe
Well there we have it. It really is all about cricketing Politics for the BCCI I suppose. Pretty embarrassing situation. This means that old Bob will continue to get his hands on crickets money through the ICC handouts.
Nice!

Aye... Just as long as we get that extra vote were all right - BCCI official line on this I reckon.
Its actually such a shame that the country with the highest economical input, and hence clout within the ICC happens to be the country with the largest bunch of 'we're allright Jack', cockmunchers IMO!
They CGAF about anything other than themselves.

Chandan, India have always backed Zimbabwe, just so they have an extra vote secured! Pathetic, really pathetic.

If Aus can continue to refuse touring Pak again and again on political and security grounds despite full co-operation of Pak Govt and board, why should it's fans be too concerned about who co-operates with Zimboks. No one is forcing Aus to support them now is there? One didn't hear you people demand an ICC ban on Pak despite a similiar military regiment and human rights disaster there in the recent past. I don't support Mugabe or Zim cricket at present either or wouldn't care fig about why BCCI their cricket board, but I am not sure how their actions amount to a thumbs up against ICC? Everyone in the membership has a right to support or oppose a member. India or Pak or any other member has the same rights about backing a member as Aus and Eng have about opposing that member. Democracy isn't about toeing the line of other members is it? Why should BCCI blindly support Eng and Aus's bid to revoke Zim, if they don't think along those lines? It is a decision for the ICC to make after taking a majority into confidence. Your post almost makes it sound like ICC took a decision and India opposed it unilaterally.

Dunno taips. It's still going great guns IMO, despite all the BCCIs best efforts.
Re: India back Zimbots
If the BCCI actually takes this position then I'd be happy to support a boycott of India.

As if a boycott of India will ever happen. At the end of the day, most cricket boards rely on India for the majority of their incomes.

Re: India back Zimbots
In my opinion, there is no reason for Zimbabwe to be a full member nation for 2 reasons:
1. They are shoite, substandard and generally not very good. The reason for this is due to the political situation there. Now even if you remove the politics from the situation, the Zimbots are not good enough to be a full member country.
2. The money gleaned from being a full memeber nation is filtered, as shown through the recent report, still not published, through irregularities into Bob and his mates back pockets.
Now if you are happy for the world game to line the pockets of a mass murderer, whilst the team themselves are so poor, that a top amateur club side could beat them, then bully for you.
However the only reason the BCCI has for them remaining is an extra vote in their pocket. Hardly good is it for the game?!

The political situation is the main reason Zimbabwe have gone from being a competetive, spirited outfit in the mid to late 90's, to an absolute pile of shite.
All of the ICC's talk in the past about how politics and sport shouldn't mix was absolute rubbish as it was the political situation that caused the likes of the Flower brothers and Heath Streak to bail in the first place. So like it or not, the ICC should have accepted that sport and politics had mixed.

To an extent. Who will play them? India can't force the ICC to include Zimbabwe in the future tours program thingy....can they?

Financial muscle flexing corruption supporting machete wielding corruption.
Yes, that makes perfect sense where the BCCI and it's corrupt infestation of officials are concerned.
Think only about themselves rather than the overall welfare of a destroyed nation and its wretched people.
Nothing changes.

Most probably, India Pak, SL and BD will play with them. But it'll be such a farce of a situation if others back out.
