Re: The Sheffield Shield Returns
Probably both, PCS. Most of we Antipodeans still referred to the comp at "The Shield" during the Moo Moo period anyway. The competition is founded on great tradition and the Sheffield Shield is a bit like the FA's League Cup. Doesn't matter what you call it, it will always be the League Cup.PeterCS wrote:The only serious point there being: is the (justified) celebration mainly due to the return to "Sheffield ..", with its greater historical resonance - or more to the removal of the sponsor's name (especially a strangely uddery one) from the central position in the trophy's name?
Possibly both.

Re: The Sheffield Shield Returns
Isn't it a bit diappointing that they have fixed/mended the original Shield?
Surely the whole point of the history of the Sheffield Shield, is actually winning the plate (not bowl I presume now), and the fact that dents and dinks were imparted by some of your cricketing greats have been lost?

Being domiciled here doesn't make me a bloody Victorian. Last state I'd choice to belong to - except vile dubberland, of course.

And it's so cheap because the manufacturers don't pay income tax because they are a religous body.
