Test discard Faisal Iqbal could be handed a ban or a hefty fine if the Pakistan Cricket Board decides to take disciplinary action against him for appearing in a Twenty20 tournament in Florida featuring players from the rebel Indian Cricket League.
Faisal`s case will be taken up by the International Cricket Committee headed by Zakir Khan on Thursday.
Faisal had appeared in the invitational Twenty20 tournament in May in Florida where teams from Pakistan, India and USA took part. Faisal played alongside ICL players like Imran Farhat, Imran Nazir in the competition.
The Board has issued a showcause notice to him for appearing with ICL players who are banned from playing at any level in the country by the board.
The batsman, who has played 21 Tests and 18 one-dayers, could face a stringent penalty or ban if the committee does not accept his explanation.
"I have informed the Board that in the same tournament, West Indian player Shaun Findley played as well as seven or eight other cricketers from Canada who are presently playing in the ICC`s Inter-Continental Cup," Faisal said.
"I didn`t commit any crime, I just went there to earn some extra money since I don`t have a central contract from the Board. And it was not an ICL organised event," he explained.
The committee will also look into the feedback from the team management on the performance of the national team in the recent Asia Cup where Pakistan failed to make the final.
Also tomorrow, the three-member fact finding committee of the Board will also meet and question pacer Mohammad Asif over his 19-day detention in Dubai last month for alleged possession of a contraband drug.
The committee, which comprises senior officials of the Board, has got the report of the public prosecutor of Dubai on Asif`s detention and will make recommendations on the basis of that report.
The pacer is already suspended for having failed a dope test in the Indian Premier League.

Re: Ridiculous!! Test cricket dropped for.....
Ha ha ha ha! This is brilliant!
The PCB not selecting a bloke because he played against some ICL chaps in a friendly showcase tourny in the uS! How ridiculous is that?
Wonder where TO is to defend the embarrassment that is the BCCI, and the fact that their greed is basically farking cricket coards around the world.
Absolute nonsense this. Also read somewhere that Laxman, who is supposed to be going to Notts for a stint may not be allowed to play, because Notts have ICL players. Thats marvellous isn't it. I forget who tours india next (think it may be the Aussies), and you stop one of your top 6 coming to England for practice and to keep in form because Wissy Read played ICL cricket.... Jokers!!!

The BCCI is to blame for PCB's incompetence? That's a new one.

Nothing to do with their incompatence.
The whole thing comes from the BCCI being such a greedy bunch of farks that this whole ICL players scenario is getting out of hand.
The PCB run on hand outs and therefore if the bCCI says jump, they say how high. I have no problem with this as long as the Controlling party has a vested interest in cricket.
Seems to me the vested interest is in cash, and cash alone - hence my slightly maybe irrational stance towards the BCCI!

Re: Ridiculous!! Test cricket dropped for.....
Karachi: Pakistan Test batsman Faisal Iqbal on Saturday sighed with relief after the board let him off with a warning for playing in a Twenty20 festival tournament in Florida alongside players of the rebel Indian Cricket League.
The Pakistan Cricket Board issued a showcause notice to Faisal warning him to be careful in future and avoid taking part in any event without clearance from the board.
The board had issued the notice to Faisal after he played in the event in May that also featured several ICL players.
"His matter was discussed at the meeting of the international cricket committee and it was decided to let him off this time with a strong warning," an official said.
The board was also unhappy that Faisal who has 21 test appearances to his credit played in the event which was not recognised by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The ICL players are all banned from playing in Pakistan by the board. But interestingly the Faisal incident has left some other players in a fix as they have been invited to take part in a benefit match on August 13 in Karachi which is being organised by the Governor's house in link to the Independence day celebrations.
"The board is not clear about its policy on ICL players at the domestic level and we don't know what to do now as they are some players who have got invitations from the government to play in the match," one player said.
Faisal confirmed he had also got an invitation and had asked the board to clarify things.
The interesting thing is that the governor house has said the benefit match which will feature top players is being held with the support of the board.
