So, he's realised at last that he needs to keep bowling to keep his action grooved. You could hear the penny drop from here!

Not quite how I saw it Bob.
Is one enjoying Ranas unique approach to batting?

Yup!
Particularly when he started trying to drop grenades on 'Miss Marple'!

Where's this news come from then? I'm happy enough with it - Harmi was a decent OD bowler when he could be arsed. Same as everything else with him I s'pose.

Announced via Sky from the ECB.
Not really bothered about the impact on the OD side to be honest.
It increases his chances of being in decent fettle for Test cricket in December though, and that's why I'm pleased.

Trueman junior is still insisting it was a man. Croft wetting himself in the background was a joy to behold.
Apologies for talking off topic.

Harmison in no way cynically timing his return to limited overs international cricket to coincide with England's winner-takes-all $1 million game over the winter...

I think that's pretty unfair actually.
He made it quite clear that he had no intention of returning to OD international cricket, but KP made a direct appeal to him following his Test comeback.
Far be it from me to play the apologist for the work shy fop, but this in the best interests of English cricket, and I'm prepared to give some credit to KP for making it happen, and even hope that perhaps the penny has finally dropped with Barmy Harmy if he wants to prolong his international career.

So Harmison gets slogged all over the place over the course of a load of ODI's and by the time the next Tests come around his fragile confidence has evaporated again...

Amazing how any other bowler ever survives it really...the poor lambs.

Harmison isn't your normal bowler though!
He's no good at ODI's - what have we got to gain? He plays sh!t, we lose, he loses confidence.
Much better playing for Durham in some 4 day stuff.
Re: Harmison to join up with JAMODI squad
Great news.
The confidence shown in him might just rub off.
No harm in trying it, if only to keep him in the groove.
So what if he cocks up .. it's just a bloody JAMODI.
Vawn eat yer heart out ... it's refreshing to see KP's
ideas (Harmless in the squad and Shah batting at 3)
being aired ... and the confidence he is showing in his
fellow team members by promoting their cause.
Something Vaughan lacked with a vengeance.

For the umpteenth time Merlin - Vaughan wasn't a selector!
Vaughan didn't leave Shah out of the England team - the selectors did. Vaughan didn't make Harmison retire. Infact didn't Harmison play the best cricket of his career under Vaughan? It was his later performaces under Flintoff that were the reason he retired!

Vaughan may not have had a formal selection role, but please don't tell me his opinions weren't taken seriously by the selection panel. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that Vaughan and Fletcher pretty much took the field with the side they wanted most of the time.

That is largely true, although there were a few instances of Fletcher being given players he knew very little about by the selectors, e.g. Ian Ward & Martin Saggers.
But Shah's best form came from 2004 onwards, in 2004/05 the team was settled and successful - in 2006 he made his debut in India at a time when Vaughan was injured. So Vaughan has nothing to do at all with Shah's shabby treatment the following year.
By 2007 the system had changed, the captain had no formal say in selection, and it was very much the selectors and coach picking the squad, with the captain getting the say only on the day of the match. So it was the selectors who overlooked Shah this last year - if he had made the XIII and then been left out it would have been Vaughan - but this wasn't the case.
This system was silly, as Vaughan knew much more about Test cricket than most of our sh!tty selectors who left him with Pattinson or Tremlett to pick from at Headingley when he wanted Jones or Hoggard.
Re: Harmison to join up with JAMODI squad
I can't see how this can be bad for Harmison. Surely he will be given a simple task ... "bowl fast, keep your rhythm, don't bowl wides"?

To succeed in modern ODI cricket you need to know when to bowl different lengths, vary your pace, have a good slower ball, etc. There is a lot to think about as the batsmen will come hard at you.
Harmison is best when he can just bowl and not complicate things, as you say. But if he bowls fast and straight on the same line, and short of a length as he does in Tests then he's going to go for runs. Then he's going to have to try different things, and his bowling will slowly start to go down the pan...
Re: Harmison to join up with JAMODI squad
I agree, but he'll only go for runs in ODIs (WGAF), and it's the Tests you want him right for.
I'm semi-serious. Keep him involved, set him a simple task, it might come off (for the tests, not in the ODI games themselves).

Fair enough.
As long as he resists the temptation to perform well, and bowls fast and straight every game it could work.
