Re: aust openers for India tour
Hughes is nowhere near ready. Give him another season to check to see if he has 'second season syndrome' or not. He has some technical flaws as well, imo.

I think young Phil may be a little green just yet, h. Bog has sorta come out of nowhere but looks the goods.horace wrote:so mr S - do you agree about blooding hughes and marsh in the event the Unit is unfit this summer?
As I said, I am happy we seem to have depth post Langer and Hayden.

hatti is not a long term prospect and fleas folds under pressure as we all know...hughes is the most exciting dubber prospect since dougie...but bats with even greater maturity

Potential openers: Hayden, Jaques, Katich, M Hussey, Katich, Rogers, Watson, Marsh, Hughes, perhaps even North.

Re: aust openers for India tour
I have to agree that Jaques fills me with no confidence from a technique perspective but if he churns out the runs then he'll obviously stay.
Fleas is only a stop-gap at opener. He will probably fill Roy's vacant middle-order spot for India.
I guess the question becomes does Fleas stay as opener if Hayden is not fit, and bring in Not Paris in the middle order, or do they blood someone like Bog?
India is not really the place to blood a new Test opener.
And I hope your optimism in young Hughes is proven, h.

cripes lardie - why not include the early openeer down the road?
sensible opener suggestions - haydoss, hughes, marsh and possibly rogers if the others are struck down with flu...watto is not an opener, paris would be wasted...the others are landfill

I am yet to be convinced by Hughes.
I remember Geoff Davies, Ian Davis, Dirk Wellham, and Peter Toohey all too well. Great starts to their careers ...

Fair call, lardy. Not quite sure why horrie's admiration for the Spiv short@rse leftie comes from, at least at this early stage.lardbucket wrote:I am yet to be convinced by Hughes.

Re: aust openers for India tour
He's too closed in his stance, and he picks his bat up towards fine leg. Makes it very hard to play full and straight bowling.
