Hope he goes out on a winning note.

Decent test player, great ODI player and a good captain.

Probably most disliked Indian player outside India.

Pretty smart by Gangles - it puts the pressure on the selectors to pick him every test.

Thanks for everything Dada. Most of all for helping us to get rid of the 'chalta hai' syndrome that plagued Indian cricket for so long.

Always thought Ganguly was a classy and quality player. Best of luck to him in the series, and good on him for making the call himself.

Watching him playing well was still one of the finest sights in cricket as recently as last summer; I'll miss his batting.

He's probably jumping before he is well and truly pushed. He had had a great career even if it's been marred a bit by controversy here and there.

He is one of the main reasons why we've such a record against Aussies during this decade.

The end has started. The best captain India has had IMHO. One of the most graceful batsmen of his generation. If this somewhat foils the BCCI's 'grand farewell party' plans, that would also be typical Ganguly.

Thanks Maharajda. Indian cricket would have been very different and much the poorer without you.

He was a very combative captain but I rate him much more highly than Kumble as a leader.

Thats a given.

Kumble isn't even a patch on him as a leader.

Ganguly to retire Empty Re: Ganguly to retire

Ganguly announces his retirement,

"This is going to be my last series, I have decided to quit," he told reporters in Bangalore on Thursday.

"I have told my team mates before coming here that this four-Test series would be my last. I thank everyone for the support they have given me. I hope I will end my career on a winning note," the former India captain added.

Ganguly was a surprise inclusion in the squad for the Australia series after being left out of the Rest of India team for the Irani Trophy match against Delhi.

"Honestly, I didn't expect to be picked for this series," said the left-hand batsman, who aggregated less than 100 runs in the recent series against Sri Lanka.

Yet Kumble did well in Australia.

Dhoni is the logical succesor no doubt and a likeable bloke to boot.

Ganguly = over-rated as a test batsman!

Decent skipper however.

Yet Kumble did well in Australia.
Under Kumble India lost the series in Australia while Ganguly has an unblemished record in Australia.

Ganguly is one of the very few batsmen whose test average never fell below 40. Atleast till now.

Grossly over-rated as a batsman, often aloof and sometimes too cocky for his own good.
But a good skipper nonetheless.

At least HE knew when it was time to leave ... 'nuff said.

Good man, Gangers. The best captain India had, IMO. Gave our cricket team a backbone, and got in several good players into the side.

Well done champ, sorry to see you go. But you knew when to do it.
