Umpires 'Gunny'
I am not a great fan of using hawkeye for lbw's but am interested in the use of snicko technology to help resolve caught behinds. While all batsmen lucky and bad decisions some seem to cop more bad decisions than others...the last test provided a couple of examples..
Rahul Dravid continued his miserable luck with poor decisions and again looks like being the Umps Gunny. Those calling for his head need to appreciate the run of mistken 'outs' he has had in recent series inc the last one in Oz.
Meanwhile Khan is close to claiming Hayden as his Bunny while conveniently forgetting MTB was gunned in both innings by the Umps...at present it looks like Hayden will become another Umps 'Gunny'.

meh, if the pitch were flatter or he was better he would hit the ball with the middle of the bat and there wouldn't be a problem

Part of me says Hayden get's what he deserves....on the other hand, he really got the sticky end of some shonky umpiring decisions from possibly not the best practioners of the art. So I would support the use of technology for caught-behinds.

Re: Umpires 'Gunny'
It doesn't matter whether players complain or not - and fair play to Hayden for keeping it zipped. But, slo-mo replays won't go away: so we have to make a choice - back on-field umpires to make the right decision and punitively punnish dissent, or embrace technology and leave it to the 3rd umpire.
I know which I'd choose!

Re: Umpires 'Gunny'
Hayden has been plumb a couple of times in recent summers and it wasn't given so at this point he probably realises that the ledger has been squared. I'm sure he made a ton on one of those occasions.

Re: Umpires 'Gunny'
prolly right red...tho i think that dravid has been one of the more consistently unlucky bats around.
Laxman too has been a bit unlucky...btw I admired VVS for disobeing what was clearly a team directive to not walk until the ump gives the decision...even for the most obvious of catches in front of the wicket

FWIW, I thought the umpires had pretty good games in T1. I'm impressed by Rauf, and Rudi didn't make any howlers.

Re: Umpires 'Gunny'
agreed they were pretty good...aside from the hayden and dravid errrors ....prolly more serious were their failures to deal with India's time wasting and slow over rates and to refrain from stating to katich what needed to be said - "Ave a go ya mug"

Phurt. Ponting was as clear as day caught and bowled by Kumble in the first innings, but Rudi didn't even bother to refer it.

At first I thought it was a scrape, but replays did show Ponting to be out.Henry wrote:skully wrote:FWIW, I thought the umpires had pretty good games in T1. I'm impressed by Rauf, and Rudi didn't make any howlers.

Replays also showed Katich to be plumb in his second dig.

I'm still trying to work out why Sehwag (?) stood his ground in the first innings when caught by Hayden at second slip? Late no-ball call perhaps?

Re: Umpires 'Gunny'
Australia too was guilty of that during India's first innings. For most of 3rd day's play their over rate was very shoddy 12 overs per hour which probably might be one of the things that cost them that test.slow over rates

Hayden took the ball quite low to the grass. India have a thing about grassies since Pontings suggestion about walking.

Re: Umpires 'Gunny'
First innings was a good low catch. 2nd innings was higher but perhaps more difficult because Viru tried to turn it to leg and it came off the leading edge. Hayden would have seen it late.
