The death of 50-over cricket?
a distinct possibility in the not too distant future. it doesnt offer the same joy as test cricket or the excitement of 20/20. the contrast between this world cup and the last one couldnt be greater in terms of on-ground atmosphere and passion
the format is perfect for a night out and i can see it gaining many fans all over the world. with the launch of the ipl and the champions league there probably wont be too much time left for odis without eating into tests
cant wait for my first 20/20 experience next month. should be a blast

yeah i can see it happening. ODIs are neither here nor there. but what happens when 20-20 gets monotonous - 10 over cricket?

well there doesnt seem to be any monotonous passages in 20/20 like overs 15-40 in odis, so i dont see it being replaced for some time. 10 wickets is enough to go turbo-charged throughout 20 overs

That's what you might get if the rain intrudes (as it did during Middx vs Surrey at Lords this summer and many other matches, no doubt).
Test cricket won't be touched, no matter how few the attendees on the Sub-continent, India & Pak will be the losers in cricket; it's India and Pakistan's problem if they focus away from the real game and prefer to play too many shortened versions of the now, over-done OD game.

Only because they advertise it as 5 one-dayers in a row. As soon as the fans cotton on, there'll be no-one there.
Re: The death of 50-over cricket?
As long as Test Matches and First-Class cricket remain intact, I don't really care what happens in "other" forms of the game.

Great, so wonder why there's doom and gloom (from some quarters) at the final nature of this tournament. It's been a lot of fun, isn't that what sport should be?

It was only a couple of weeks ago England edged a humdinger of ODI series 4-3.
Yes, some ODIs are rubbish. So are a lot of T20s.
I think the novelty will wear off pretty quickly.

Re: The death of 50-over cricket?
Agree.
I've begun to find the endless T20 a bit tedious tbh, and i'll watch most cricket.
It's here to stay and I hope it finds its place at domestic level and 1 or 2 games max per tour.

Uhh, yeah... the first time ever that a 7 match ODI series has gone down to the wire.

Nope.Uhh, yeah... the first time ever that a 7 match ODI series has gone down to the wire.
Its second time that a 7-ODI series went to the wire.
Ind-WI ODI series in '02 was the first time that 2 teams were locked at 3-3 before the final ODI.
PS: India last final match of that WI series as well.
