There can be no debate that RL is a better spectator sport.
Why not? I find leeeeeeg mind numbingly, boringly predictable and would rather watch a game of rugby any day.

Because I find Union to be too slow. I agree that if it is played right and the rules and regulations were in place, then Union is probably better to watch as there seems to be some strategy and buildup. But how often do we get a good game of Union?
There are too many penalties and stoppages. And attacking play is not encouraged when teams can win because they have a good goal kicker.
yes Leeg is predictable, it's meat heads running straight up and down. But it surpasses Union as a spectacle because there is some fleuncy to the play.

After a great season of AFL, listening to an argument about whether League or Union is better is like trying to decide whether you would rather watch Bangladesh or Zimbabwe.

Jack Gibson said it best - "Rugby Union is just an excuse for fat forwards".
The reason Rugby League is the better spectator sport should be clear to everyone. The game has been modifying its rules for more than 100 years in order to bring in the fans.
Rugby Union didn't have to worry about crowds for more than 100 years because it didn't pay its players. As a result it didn't change its rules and spectators lost out.
As for the World Cup.
France hosted the first Rugby League World Cup in 1954. They lost the final to Great Britain. Unfortunately the sport in France was already in decline by that stage.
The Vichy government banned Rugby League during its time in power, seizing the sport's grounds and assets.
At the moment international Rugby League is only competitive between three countries. I enjoy seeing that competition, but events like the World Cup are needed to give countries like France a go. Hopefully one day they will become a strong power again.
Cheers.

Great Britain have actually won it three times - '54, '60 and '72.
They probably should have won in '92 as well but choked in the last 10 minutes.

Tommy Bishop told me Brian Edgars team in which he played was one of the best. My Uncle played in the Sydney test for Australia . England won the brisbane test according to Tommy in '65 I think

You mean the Investment Bankers/Lawyers??
Doctors (generally, give or take a few psychos) dedicate their life to helping people. They are arrogant to the extreme but are not money hungry scum of the earth.

Nothing wrong with PNG beating England, in fact there may just be some poetic justice.

Still got the best ever story. Geraint grew up in Kundiawa where the largest election bribe in history was paid. 4000 cartons of beer. Thing is the incumbent with the 4000 cartons of beer was beaten by the local licencing commissioner.
I love third world shitholes.

Like this from the US thread?
"In West Virginia's Jackson County, there were some reports that voting machines were accidentally recording the wrong vote.
"I went in there and pushed the Democrat ticket, and it jumped to the Republican ticket for president of the United States," said Calvin Thomas, an 81-year-old West Virginian. iReport: Tell us about your early voting experience
Thomas has voted in West Virginia in every election since Harry Truman defeated Thomas Dewey in 1948.
The same thing happened to his daughter, Micki Clendenin, when she cast her ballot. In both cases, poll workers at the site had them touch the screen a few more times, and the voting machine changed their ballot to their candidate choice.
"The lady came in, and she was -- very nicely, she just said, 'it's just been doing that.' She said, 'just hit it again.' So we hit it again, and this time it did go to Obama," Clendenin said."

Farkin Channel Nein have the farkin carp opening ceremony on, instead of the live game.
Have to admit, I expect the Kiwis the smash us due to far better preparation.
