Not really. We've passed those depths a long loooooooooong time ago.

The worst depths for India is the fact that 10 million girls have been killed in their mother's wombs before birth last 2 decades. The farked up disgusting age old belief that sons are the be all in family and that girls are a social and financial burden still exists among a large number of people and not just rural but even the educated upper middle class. It is shameful that female foeticide is still rampant and that the national average sex ratio in a lot of the states is 1000 boys:850 girls. Educating girls in a large section of some really ungoverned backward hellholes is still a strict no-no as their role is still viewed as someone who will marry, make babies and slave for a man's house someday.

I wonder where these motherkillers and fokkers are going to get brides for their manly boys in the future. Someday, rapes will be the order of the day as an increasing male population gets really frustrated at not finding a marriageable partner. Already it is leading to more social havok and banes like buying child brides from poor famliles in villages where not sufficient girls are left for boys to even polygamy within family where brothers are wed to and share the same bride. To top it some villages still indulge in child marriages despite Government efforts to curb it. Some rural backwards wastelands still practice sati hidden from media and Govt eyes where ther is no Govt or media existance at all [The baneful age old practice where a wife must jump into the burning pyre of her dead husband and follow him beyond to carry on fulfilling her karma as his wife]. India just hypocritically worships woman as a form of motherhood, even cows as symbols of motherhood, but does little to preserve their dignity and rights.

We are a seriously screwed up society mired neck deep in hypocrisy and hidden taboos. The India Shining story and it's cultural heritage is a huge joke and a farce to the best of my knowledge.
