The Book Game Empty The Book Game

Post by Zat Sat 06 Dec 2008, 01:29

OK, while we're waiting for some international cricket to get underway, here's something different.

Rules:
* Grab the book closest to you. Now.
* Go to page 56.
* Find the 5th sentence.
* Post the sentence here.
* Don't go looking for your favourite book, or the coolest one you have -- just grab the closest one.

Naturally the flesh, eggs and young of these docile birds were fair game for hungry hunters.

A rough translation . . .

"Similarly in my profession it is a matter of no little skill to make the right use of men's apetite for rich food, so that they may enjoy the pleasure it brings without causing disease."

Even now, though the UK's world status has diminished and it's royalty and clergy no longer wield much real power or receive the same respect, the institutions that run the country inhabit roughly the same geographical areas; Westminster for the politicians, Whitehall for the ministers and civil servants.

It would no doubt have increased the prestige of the League of Nations if the United States had been a member; but British policy at Geneva suggests that a membership of a second Anglo-Saxon power would not necessarily have transformed the League into the effective instrument of security which the French desired.
