Re: Most unfortunate names in the UK
Worst England sides I can remember:
-----------------------------------------------
1988 vs WI (the summer of four captains)
1989 vs Aus (when half the side went AWOL to SA)
1999 (NZzzzzz beat us in England)

I think you must have got knocked back by someone called Thornton at some stage.
There, I've said it.
Either that, or you lost a tooth or two to the toffee people.

I've always felt like slapping people with the surname Thomas, when they name their son John.
I have also come across a Richard Sole

Groundsman Mike Hunt hasn't been held back at all.
Neither has Dick Pound, for that matter

Jo King is on there as well, another one with cricket connections (TMS scorer on occasions).

I reckon the summer of 1986 must be up there, losing at home to both NZ & India.
Bill Athey,Wilf Slack & Chris Smith in the batting line up and Derek Pringle batting 6 and 1st change bowler! FFS even John Lever got a recall out of the blue that summer

A few of those who responded are puzzling. Why does Jenny Taylor think her name is worst of all? I understand that Simon Swindells is embarrassed about his surname, but he seems to have been even more embarrassed about his first name?
Best married couple must be the lawyer, Sue Mee, and her banker husband, Rob Mee.

Took me an age to work it out - and it's not the worst at all - but Geni Tal(i)a is my guess.

Thanks - it really bothered me! If my young Chinese friend Michael Lam ever complains about his name, I'll reassure him.Yorkie Jill wrote:mynah wrote:PeterCS wrote:Mary Christmas

Not true. He's had over 9000 emails in support of his name. And a further 50,000 pro-floppy-fringe Text-messages.
Re: Most unfortunate names in the UK
Plus he's obviously good at viral e-mailing the ECB chairman.

Unfortunate names do have their upside. The archbishop of Manila, Cardinal Sin, certainly got a fair bit of publicity out of his.
