South Africa Empty South Africa

How have they managed to become so shit in the space of 3 weeks? I can only think it's complacency. They completely turned to jelly for the jamodis after winning the test series in England last year, and the same now looks to be happening after their success in Australia.

Doesn't matter how, or why.

If it continues, then lets add it to the list of great SAffy cricketing chokes.

A home series against Australia, having just beaten the Aussies in Australia, meaning that the world No 1 spot was on the line. Maybe it's the ODI choking spreading to the Test arena.

The series in Aus was the same. One team would have a good seesion then the other would hit back.

well, south africa did need extraordinary performances to win the two tests in australia. they didnt dominate that series at all and with a bit of luck australia could well have won 3-0. so all talk of them suddenly destroying australia at home was way off the mark

Australia always had the likes of Warne, McGrath, Gilly and hayden to win the big moments. Suring the past summer homes series we just couldn't win the big moments and it cost us the series.

The ABdV/Duminy partnership in Perth then the Duminy/Steyn partnership in Melbourne cost us. TGM x 2 wouldn't have let that happen.

Well despite all the Saffer praising, (and it was well earned) they hardly dominated either test series in England or Australia to the extent that people were building them up and both series could have gone the other way with a bad session here or there.

The fact they won both series is to their credit as they won the vital moments in both series through good play.

On the other hand, why after 1 defeat and 1 session are they now considered to be 'on the decline'?

Aus are capable of winning a test against anyone, this match may well end up a draw & SA are just as capable of winning the last test.

I think that apart from Smith, certain players in this South African side have a tendency to be complacent.

Perhaps most of their team playing no cricket for a month or so has a bit to do with it and with Arthur predicting dynasties they thought they just had to turn up to win a match.
