Humour Empty Humour

Post by Guest Thu 09 Apr 2009, 19:55

Why do I find this so funny? Is it true about The British and their "toilet humour?"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Le_P%C3%A9tomane

This is the bit that I found particularly funny . . .

In the following decade Pujol tried to 'refine' and make his acts 'gentler'; one of his favourite numbers became a rhyme about a farm which he himself composed, and which he punctuated with the usual anal renditions of the animals' sounds. The climax of his act however involved him farting his impression of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake.

Considering the American penchant for pronouncing the foreign j as h, the Seppos should find this even funnier...

I know they pronounce words like José and Jalapeño Peppers incorrectly, but what does having windy pops have to do with anything?

Okay, sorry. It must only be me that appreciates it. Also made into a series by Galton and Simpson, staring Leonard Rossiter . . .

A bit like Nigel in that repect . . .

Do you remember that it was just last Easter that you sent me all those pitiful PMs crying that your love for Nigel was destroying your chances for happiness?

But that's what you want isn't it? Isn't that the reason behind all the PMs and the fact you and Nigel post in reference to almost every one of my posts? Isn't why you tried to stalk me and made up some story about having discovered my "true identity"?

But this is all very tedious for the other forummers . . . let's continue it by PM . . . .

No, I once mistakenly thought of you as a confidante. I was upset one weekend and I told you why.

I post in reference to your posts cos I enjoy poking you and showing people what you're really like. But, now you've brought in your two lap dogs, it's getting on my nerves a bit so I've decided to put all three of you on ignore. So, bye for now.

What else are you supposed to pronounce the Spanish 'j' as? I don't pronounce it as an 'h', but just treat it as silent. Same thing. Almost. So, 'Pujol' would be Poo-'ole. Would that be correct?

Guys,

The rest of us really don't care.

Jay, can you give them their PMs back so the rest of us don't have to read this stuff any more? And if they break the rules, ban them!

You've got to admit it's funny, Zat. I wouldn't be bothered enough to read their posts when sober, but on a Thursday night ... it makes for excellent reading. Esp. after watching Fishsticks.

And plenty of people said much the same to me at the tmie.

In the end I put him on ignore and got on with foruming. Why don't you do the same with Dem and taips and be done with it? I suspect you can't.

I suppose you get some sort of cheap thrill from doing it, but it's really boring from the outside.

The Spanish 'j' is pronounced "kh", the 'v' as a 'b' and the 'c' at the begining of a word as a 'th' (well, as close to the English pronunciation of the consonants as I can get) i.e.

fajita = fakhita
Valencia = Balencia
cerveza = therveza

Hope this helps.

Aren't there also occasions where a j can make a y sound?

Not as far as I know. However, it is possible in Mexican Spanish and probably in Spanish spoken in South America.
The Mexicans also have another aberration; their 'x' also varies from the Spanish pronunciation as in 'Xavier'

Thanks, jr. How about the j in Juan though? I got the "silent rule" from here.
