What is it like touching 50 Bas? Does one feel amazement? Older? Younger? What is it like sailor?

Apparently, 50 is the new 40.

You know the saying . . . "If youth but knew and age but could". Your 50s are the time in your life when you do have the knowledge and you still have the drive and ability.

I take it you are suggesting that this is really Bas's 49th birthday.

A part of me wishes I never have to get past 50, but boy, do the years fly by once one has left college.

Well, if you were said to be aged 2 at the end of your 1st year then you would be said to be aged 50 at the end of your 49th year.

All over the world there are people who think this millenium began in 2001 for the same reason. I guess they would say this is the calendar most of us follow.

Agree. To say such a thing would be desperation, and yet there are those who swear blind that this is the only way to count.

any argument where a straw man case is put together...for example on a different thread I tried to make the argument that that posters Taips and Merlin were the same person...it was an argument easily demolished and cause for a bit of fun

I see your point.

This is a bit different. Embee made the original dig that August might count as month 0 which was obviously a reference to the old Y2K debate. My response was the suggestion that those who think the millenium began in 2001 would have to logically conclude that Bas would only be 50 when his age is recorded as 51.

As in the case you refer to, it was intended in jest but maybe it was a bit too subtle.
