So the BCCI got on early with the bookies before the IPL

So there were effectively no anti-corruption measures in place before the IPL began this time, which officials managed to get sorted with the bookies in the lead up to the event?
And $1.2 million is too much? Despite India, according to some reports, bringing in somthing like two thirds of the game's global revenue? And the IPL bringing in quillions? The BCCI could have easily agreed to it, and passed the cost straight on to the IPL.
FFS, BCCOARIAB again.
cricinfo wrote:The Indian board's commitment to fight corruption in cricket has come under the scanner after it has emerged that it stayed silent for months on an ICC offer to provide full anti-corruption cover for the IPL this year, mainly because of the fee involved. The issue was raised at the BCCI's working committee on Wednesday, when members were informed that the fee quoted then by the ICC - US$1.2 million - was too high.
The BCCI, which runs the IPL, finally agreed to the offer this month when reminded about it during the ICC's executive board meeting in Dubai. That was on April 17, the day before the IPL began, and it was too late for the ICC's Anti Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) - which starts work on an event at least two months in advance - to provide a credible level of preventive cover.

The BCCoarIab sorted out the corruption issues by banning the Pakistani players ...All Indians know it's only the Pakistanis who are corrupt

Of course. I forgot. Gambling's actually illegal in India, isn't it?

Zat,
I am only surprised at the fact that while posting these stories you actually seem surprised.

Must be a few dollars riding on game 20-whatever it is . . .
9.5 Venugopal Rao to Carseldine, OUT, big inside edge and umpire Asnani upholds an LBW shout! Rao fires one in and Carseldine goes back to cut, ball clips the inside edge and thuds into the pad - loud appeal for lbw and the finger goes up. That was one of the biggest inside edge I have seen given out, he smashed it on to the pad. To make matters worse, the ball after taking the edge, hit the pad outside the line of the leg stump.

IPL is a pvt enterprise ... it doesn't owe anything to ICC.

Why couldn't ICC prevent the murder of a team coach during the ICC world cup esp just before that coach threatened to come out with a book that would publish the dark underbelly of match-fixing in ICC run cricket ?

Re: So the BCCI got on early with the bookies before the IPL
It's a private tournament undoubtedly. But still called a domestic one. Still, I suppose private team owners can be exempted if they don't want to foot a huge bill of getting in ICC watchdogs.
I am most curious to know if ICC watchdogs watch 'domestic' tournements like Shield, Pura Cup, County Championships etc. for all main cricket boards. if not, then they have no business fussing over BCCI denying them. If yes, than bad of BCCI.
Either ways, nothing earthshaking or too disgraceful in it. I understand a couple of Aussies here think it is disgraceful. But in the past at least BCCI came clean and banned players involving matchfixers/bookie agents within it's players. CA chose to cover it up in connivance with ICC itself. And then those very players were backed to malign Pakistani players by both CA and ICC.
No one can claim a moral high ground here!

Given the amount of money floating around, there's probably quite a deal of money floating around a lot of the games.tac wrote:Must be a few dollars riding on game 20-whatever it is . . .

Ummm, yeah . . . I was implying that some of those might have made there way into a umpires pocket, given the shocking decision Carseldine got. Mind you, being a Qbilly, he deserved it . . .

Re: So the BCCI got on early with the bookies before the IPL
Sometime this comp we may have the perfect match where both sides have been backed to lose, and each umpire paid to assure victory for different teams. It could wind up 400 all out beats 395 all out, with no runs off the bat.tac wrote:Zat wrote:Given the amount of money floating around, there's probably quite a deal of money floating around a lot of the games.tac wrote:Must be a few dollars riding on game 20-whatever it is . . .

This isn't a private tournament - it has List A status.

I can't tell you if the Domestic games in Oz are watched by the ICC but I know they have anti-corruption measures in place .
The Director of Umpiring at the WACA was also the Referee for all non Test/JAMODI games at the WACA and he was not allowed access to his mobile phone on match days.

Arjun Tendulkar named in Mumbai's Under-14 probables list. I give it 2 years before he will be playing alongside his dad in IPL for MI. Looks like thats how things will go where career path for youngsters are concerned and there won't be lack of twats willing to sponsor the lad merely for his association with SRT.
