Definitely IMO.
A "Go" straight back to Edgbaston on the morning of the test match.

No. Barring injury England will be unchanged. The recall of Bell and Sidebottom was just to keep the guys in the team on their toes. A kind of "Ok, you beat the Windies in 3 days, but don't think that means you can be complacent" message.

why not treat this as a trial match and give both a go - esp given the WI are in such poor form?

doubt it...and besides you normally reserve your trial matches for the first 3 tests in ny ashes series...

It isn't all going to be a walk in the park for your mob as you are undoubtedly expecting after our '07 debacle, 'orrie.

They could hardly show less . . .
. . . No, that's unfair. There was a bit of fight. Trouble is, there was one game's worth of fight spread over all five Tests.

Windian players seem to be more interested in the money. I can't really blame them with all that's gone on but it's a shame. I suppose most of them are so poor at Test Cricket that they're bound not to like it. Chris Gayle went four years without a Test hundred so he's bound not to be fond of the ultimate form of the game where his cow-lasher's technique tends to be a bit difficult...

Smashing summation Goose, much better than my piss one-liner.

Henry wrote:Besides, didn't the man invest a shit load of his money in the Stanford Corporation? You'd have thought he would have learnt his lesson. Ah well....
Ok I know Gayle has said some silly things over the past week but this is really unnecessary. He invested NONE of his money in Stanford's bank. Indeed he spent a fair chunk of it on heart surgery for his brother FFS. There is no need to make stuff up to make him look worse than he already does.
BTW I managed to catch Chris Gayle's interview today with Sky live and in full and he said his comments were taken out of context. He admits that he is not comfy as captain but he had no intention of quitting in the 'near' future. Indeed the Guardian reporter seems to have taken a great deal of artistic license with that quote.
As far as Test cricket is concerned he said that again his comments were taken out of context and not to be taken seriously. He personally prefers 20-20 cricket and talks positively about the crowds etc, but he said he thinks test cricket will always be there and that it is the ultimate test for an international cricketer.
What is hilarious is that just one hour after the interview Sky Sports News are editing the story to make Gayle look like a villain and to exaggerate his 'spat' with Andrew Strauss. They edited out his comments about the Guardian interview being taken out of context and put the emphasis on Gayle's dislike for test cricket to make it look like he wanted it to 'die out'. Pathetic stuff from the media tbh.....

Miller 05.05.09
"Well done Ian, you showed great fight over the past 4 days, welcome back to the squad.. By the way, you scored a couple of lovely 30's in that time!" *cuddles ensue*

I doubt if he will play - it would be a travesty to change the side.

Not the point Bas.
Shouldn't even be in with a sniff of the squad after the comments made by Miller last week. Is p1sshole basically.
Side should and hopefully will be the same.

So who's the next cab off the rank? Rob Key I suppose, although he's not exactly shredding bowling attacks this season.

Bobby Key's pissed on his chips, I would've thought. Can't buy a run these days.
Eion Morgan's turning heads in the one-day games. I imagine he's getting some "heat" in selection meetings. Fellow Lion Jon Trott's in the runs. James Hilreth has his fans.
Probably Owais Shah has returned to his rightful place as the perennial next cab off the rank.
Until Michael Vaughan makes a fifty or something. Then he'll be inked in for the Ashes and a Knighthood.

Counts as a heatwave in Durham.
Steve Harmison will be feeling homesick again.

Will be fairly amusing watching Gayle and Sarwan in the field if we bowl first tomorrow. They both looked frozen at Lords and this will be much worse. Shiv plays for Durham and should know what to expect so I don't think he will suffer too badly.
I remember the warm up match at Leicester when Sarwan was doing some 12th man duties and at one point he had to bring out 8 jumpers for the fielders in one visit. Even after that he was inundated with requests for more jumpers as the session went on.
I perhaps should have worked out that they were not settling in too well at that point but I chose to ignore the warning signs.

I would have thought Samit Patel is about 15 kgs away from being the next cab off the rank batting wise.
