Are the poms getting sick of rubbish cricket?
Crowd numbers suggest Twenty20 overkill
The acid test was always going to come on the opening day of this season's competition. At Lord's, everything was set for a bumper crowd. The sun was shining, it was a Bank Holiday Monday, and the game featured Middlesex, the defending champions, against cross-London rivals Surrey. Five years ago, this same fixture attracted almost 30,000 people in a game that was a virtual sell-out. Last year, more than 16,000 attended.
This time there were only around 10,000 inside Lord's, with pre-sales only 7000.

I guess what can thank Modi for that.
I always said IPL was like basketball - once people got bored with the fireworks and dancing girls they would realised there is no substnace there.

Credit crunch and when you've seen a couple of matches you've seen them all.

Are the poms getting sick of rubbish cricket? That doesn't seem to matter. The subis seemingly love it, and that's where the money is.

They'll probably try to emulate basketball and go to the cricket equivalent of a shot clock.

I and a few of my friends could have gone - no traffic on roads; easy parking at Lord's; plenty of areas/seats to choose to sit; a few bevvies at the Tavern after .... but to be perfectly honest, we just couldnt be arsed.
Credit crunch aside (it's only a tenner to get in) - it's as Ange says .... you've seen a couple, you've seen them all.

Aye, but being forced to swallow is not the same as forking up cash and going.

I was at Trent Bridge on Monday, and while I don't have the precise figures, the crowd looked to be well down on previous years to me.
One lives in hope...

That's what I'm living in hope about.
Save our Pro40 starts here!
Far more fulfilling to watch than T20 crapathons, despite it being apparently irrelevant in international terms.
Fook that, who gives a stink? I enjoy it in its own right.

Our Chief Exec would gleefully have axed the FPT and retained the Pro40 - we can assume he was in the minority!

Re: Are the poms getting sick of rubbish cricket?
Think I might be tempted to go with him.
Extend the league fixtures, have the 2 divisions play home and away against the other sides (16 games), and have play-off competitions at the end with the top division ending in a Lord's showpiece, and Division Two for promotion.
Only problem with that would be avoiding the very late Lord's final scenario again.
FPT + T20x2 = Bagguvank.
