Yeah, good on him for scoring all those runs. Now can he let someone who knows what they're doing lead the team and concentrate on his batting?

Merv Hughes (a current Test selector, let's not forget) just said he hadn't been to see Ponting to congratulate him on the record.
Says a lot.

Aussies don't care much for individual records. Unlike saffies or subis.

You could always give the guy the credit that is due for his batting. It's a terrific achievement, and he's been a terrific player.

So the Langer Watch thread was a figment of my imagination.

He was more interested in swilling beer with the tour group, as shown on the big screen yesterday.
AB said that it's hard to go past. G.Chappell as Australia's best bat after Bradman but that Punter will be known as the next test by the time his career has ended with its attendant records and his ability to play all three forms of the game.

Sure. Just seems odd to read a lot of carping for other things, that's all.

His average until the time when Waqar, Wasim and the good Windians finished was around 44 too. He's done very well in the era of average inflation. Having said that, he has a storming record in india and one can't really argue with 38 test centuries in the book.

Yeah, well done to Ponting.
Deserves the honour - achieving it in 20 odd tests less than Border.
Mind you, Border didn't fill his boots against the Bangles or Zimboks ...
Nevertheless, top achievement.
Shame he's still such a dense twat at times.

Not entirely sure if 260 runs in 4 Tests v Bangladesh, or 290 runs in 3 Tests counts as exactly 'fiiling your boots', tbh.Merlin wrote:Border didn't fill his boots against the Bangles or Zimboks ...

From 2002 til 2006 he was nigh on unstoppable, but his stats for the last 2 1/2 years show signs of a slight decline.
