England v Australia, 1st ODI, The Oval, Sep 4
Will be nice to watch some cricket that doesn't have a little urn at stake...
Liked this from the preview of the 1st ODI in the Tele...
Terrible journalism.

It's almost as if they don't know who's in the Aussie ODI squad or even who's in the country atm.Likely teams
Australia: Ponting (capt), Watson, Warner, (wkt), D Hussey, Clarke, Voges, White, Johnson, Lee, Hauritz, Nannes.
Terrible journalism.

You've not seen our ODI side then. All over the shop.
More realistically 5-1 or 4-2 with one washed out then.

Re: England v Australia, 1st ODI, The Oval, Sep 4
They had the right idea in 2005 by having the ODI and 20/20 nonsense take place before the real stuff. I actually quite enjoyed the ODI series in 2005.
I'm not even sure that I'll watch them this time I couldn't care less. If we win 7-0 or lose 7-0 I'm not bothered.
Having said that though if we had been battered before the ashes then maybe we wouldn't have won.

I've no idea what side we'll play - the selectors haven't even called up Jon Trott FFS - what's that all about?
Looks very middling with no KP or Fred there for sure.

Fark knows, considering he has had an exceptional season in all formss, just got a good 150 runs in a pressure situation at the Oval, and we are gashlords in the batting department in all forms.
Very middling, only two batters with any real form as such in Strauss on form and the Shah as probably our best batter in ODI's behind KP for the last year or so?!

Aye, if Flintoff does retire through injury then our ODI side is totally farked. I mean even with him there we don't tend to do well, but he's arguably the best ODI player England have ever produced.JKLever wrote:I've no idea what side we'll play - the selectors haven't even called up Jon Trott FFS - what's that all about?

England's one-day cricket - Plan A is Pietersen, Plan B is Flintoff, Plan C is rain. Only the third one is likely to play a part in this series...

It really does say something about your side when Shah is your next best batsman.
Still, tis a good opportunity for someone to put their hands up and have a big series

Quite. We've won the series that really mattered, so I certainly won't weep into my ale if we get whupped. however .....
it would still be nice to see our Antipodean friends leave these shores empty-handed

Shame it looks like it's not going to be Denly now, would have been a great opportunity for him to show what he's capable of, but a stupid game of football has put paid to that. At best it's a missed opportunity, at worst an ongoing injury problem that could be with him throughout his career as most England players seem to have!JKLever wrote:It really does say something about your side when Shah is your next best batsman.

Hopefully Strauss can carry on where he left off in the Tests, and Trott can go some way to establishing himself as an all-formats England regular. They're not going to smash it out of the park very often though, and that's where we're still lacking, 40-1 after 10 overs doesn't get you a competitive score too often.

With Denly out, our top 6 looks like this:
Strauss
Bopara
Shah
Morgan
Colly
Prior
Wright
That is devoid of any real OD quality, and only one person capable of hitting it consistently over the ropes.
Gashlords!!
