is SL's the best spin attack in the world?
murali is over the hill and almost done but could probably still take wickets against non-indian batsmen. mendis has tailed off a bit after a decent start but is still very young and herath has had a decent start.
pakistan have ajmal - kaneria - afridi who are very decent but probably more effective in LOC (pun unintended)
india have some good up and comers in mishra, ojha and chawla. harbhajans career has stalled but even he is still 28. of course a host of part timers too. id have to give it to SL at least til murali - the last world class spinner - retires.

When and where are the next Warne, Kumble and even Saqlain/MacGill going to come from? Sad times for cricket, when a non-performing qunt like Bhajji is the top spinner around really.....

I hope India don't completely give up on Mishra after one bad test.

It was senseless to drop him for the Mumbai test.Henry wrote:I hope India don't completely give up on Mishra after one bad test.
If anyone who should've been dropped, its Bhajji.

It was the selectors who were resposible foe Mishra's bad performance. He has not played a longer version game since a year and they carried him on bench everywhere instead of releasing him to play a few Ranji matches to get himself match fit and ready for the challenge ahead.
Yesterday he played his first FC match of the year I suppose and took 3 wickets in 6 overs.

You have to get your bowlers ready for the test cricket since they are not one of those all time great bowlers who could adjust to any format immediately. Wonder when Srikant would learn this! I was really disappointed to see Ishant still not playing Ranji cricket.
And when he'll return there would be no matches left for Delhi to play. Our selectors are destroying a quality bowler here.

Has he made himself available for selection for Delhi for Ranji super league games?I was really disappointed to see Ishant still not playing Ranji cricket.
If no, hasn't he become too big for his boots?

He has been chosen for the two T20s instead. So he just can't make himself available to Ranji even if he wants to.

Mishra is really talented. He may just overtake Bhajji sometime in the near future as the 1st choice if given a fair run in tests. Also really like the way Ojha bowls. Orthodox, uncomplicated. Land it, turn it, get wickets. I think we look good in the spin bowling front.

World Cricket is a bit light on for spin talent these days. If Chuck is past his best then I guess India and Pakistan have the best options with Bhajji and Kaneria (who bowled very well in NZ recently).

It is perplexing that Pakistan didn't see fit to pick Kaneria in the first test

I've been bashing on about Kaneria since the first Test. It's ridiculous to not pick a man in form. Something England would do.
The Pakistan setup has something very English about it. Random collapses, avoiding picking players who have clearly outshone all competition. Maybe they've been talking to Geoff Miller.

Yeah, and they usually get it right either when it's too late, or just in the nick of time. They never do it at a comfortable stage.

kaneria is shite, worse than harby. taking wickets against that kiwi batting line up doesnt take anything special. ajmal and afridi are both better spinners than kaneria

Has Kaneria ever racially destroyed a whole nation?

IMO India is in dire need of quality right arm spinners. Mishra is too inconsistent and Harbhajan is losing it. Its not that he isn't turning the ball...its just that his line (middle and leg) is awry. Even a good bouncy wicket doesn't get him wickets.

Mishra is not inconsistent Mirchi. He was not at all match fit for the A'bad test, not having played FC cricket since a year. Afterall, leggies need constant practice. He should have been released to play Ranji much earlier than the test series began.
2-3 FC matches would have had him top shape and form.

Re: is SL's the best spin attack in the world?
That might be true in this case, Chandan, but Mishra tends to bowl short on a consistent basis giving away a four-ball every over. Comparing his bowling with Kumble (line and length), he has few variations with the exception of a good googly. I think Dhoni was as much at fault in Ahmedabad. You can't - and shouldn't - encourage your strike bowler to bowl a negative line, especially not one who hasn't yet found his footing on the international stage.Chandan wrote:Mishra is not inconsistent Mirchi. And yes, you are right, he should be allowed to play domestic cricket instead of warming the bench. If he's lucky some English county may mop him up.
