So Drunky's captaincy in T1?
Excellent declarations, stepped up the pace with the bat when Watson and Fleas became becalmed in the 90s in I1, excellent use of Bolly and Midge (thought he would've started with Bolly this morning but got it 100% right), persisted with Haurie leading to the lad's first Test Michelle, even chucked Fleas on and almost got a wicket yesty arvo.
All round, a damn fine match as captain.

Punter now heads the list of most wins as captain and most wins as a player . . . he has 93 test wins . . . India has 101 . . .

nah jgk...he called it right...score was worth 480-500 on any other ground...
kudos to punter in this game and for taking the record - esp given the side is just an average team nowadays..
...and mega lol at Punter's record of wins as a player being close to that of total Banindian wins...

Cue lots of sookin from South Asians about lack of opportunity at Test level due to being kept down by the Man (Engulund).horace wrote:...and mega lol at Punter's record of wins as a player being close to that of total Banindian wins...

As Oz seem to find run-making easier in i1 than i2 these days, esp on this pitch, yes it was too early, Another 60-80 in another hour on Sunday and we could have declared earlier yesterday, or declared at the same time and set an even harder target. But all is hindsight now....

Farkin easily, h.horace wrote:i suspect Banindia has suffered more losses than Ricky!!
Drunky has only played in 23 losing matches (most of them since he became captain!! ) while Banindia has lost 136 Tests. Infact Banindia have nearly lost as many Tests as Ponting has played (140).

Re: So Drunky's captaincy in T1?
Ponting did OK. Some of the field placements were a bit mystifying, and I would have lioke the declaration in the first dig after 500. Didn't bowl anyone into the ground, and more importantly, didn't let someone who was being spanked all over (not that it happened a lot) keep going because 'the plan was to give him an 8 over spell and he's only bowled 3 and gone for 40 runs so he still has to get through another 5.

Ponting didn't have to be much of a captain this summer. Every fourth English summer is the trick. We really lost it with Captains when AB retired.

Re: So Drunky's captaincy in T1?
No doubt Ponting has had to carry on without the greats for much of his captaincy but interestingly he played in 12 losing Tests his first 75 Tests (16%) and then 11 losing Tests since assuming the captaincy 65 Tests ago (16.9%). So his losing ratio hasn't changed much.
And if he hadn't have had several brain fades (first day Edgbaston 05 and last day Cardiff 09 come to mind), his loss ratio may have actually been better than when he played under Tubby and Tugga.

Tugga like Punter won the easy ones.

Horrie would have said Waugh won the easy ones.

The worst crime is that neither of them won the hard ones.
